Competition rules
Specimen hunt

The objective is to catch as many species as possible from a specified list of fish species. There will be two competition days - August the 4th & 5th.

The overall winner will be the diver who catches the most number of individual species over the two days.**

1. All divers must sign the registration form before the competition starts & sign out before the weigh in.*

2. We request that no competitor dives the venue in the 48 hours prior to the competition

3. All divers enter the competitions and dive entirely at their own risk. There are no safety boats provided

4. Competitors must use a surface marker buoy and remain within 25m of that marker at all times. Competitors may use a floatation aid such as dive board.

5. Each diver will sign a disclaimer stating that they are aware of the rules and are taking part at entirely their own risk.

6. There will be a limit of three fish of any of the specified species per diver per day.

7. Any diver who has signed on & but not signed out within 30 minutes after the designated weigh in time, will cause the emergency services to be alerted on their behalf. *

8. Competitors will only be allowed to dive the designated venue and must remain within the designated dive area (a briefing detailing the dive boundaries will be given on the day)

9. All Competitors must enter and exit the competition by foot. The use of boats or any other form of vehicular transport is not permitted. During the competition, a diver may enter and leave the water as many times as they wish.

10. For safety reasons, divers are recommended not to string fish on their waist. They should attach the fish to their SMB.

11. A diver may only weigh in fish that they have caught, and only fish presented to the dive coordinators at the official weigh-in will be eligible for the competition

12. All Competitors will be responsible for their own catch. Divers must be aware that their general conduct and treatment of their catch will reflect upon other divers and may also affect how the sport of is perceived by the general public It is therefore imperative that all divers behave responsibly and ensure that all fish caught are dealt with humanely and appropriately at all times.

Mart i have 2 questions; please can we arrange a sign on sheet for [me] anyone who arrives after 11:30 saturday? and about the speccie hunt - what happens if 2 or more people have the same number of speccies?

What time do you want to sign on then!?
I am not sure how we could do that unless there is someone there to sign you in?
You can sign in at 10.30 and enter the water at any time?
In the event of two or more competitors catching the same number of different species the winner will be judged on overall weight.
I would rather each speciem was being based against a percentage of a set target weight but perhaps that will be for the next time.....

Hi everyone,

Just sent out one of the final emails to you all but wanted to post some info on here as well.

We've released two documents for the event - the first is the Timetable for the weekend - it gives timing and location information - please make sure you turn up in plenty of time
for your registered events during the weekend:

http://tinyurl.com/db-timetable

The second document is the Specimen Hunt competition rules. You'll be asked to sign the rules and disclaimer when you join the hunt:

http://tinyurl.com/db-comprules

The email and documents contain the contact details for myself and Foxfish who are the organisers and hosts for the weekend.

Finally - goodie bags will be handed out on Thursday (for the early birds) or Friday night so make sure you join us if you can! Lots of goodies in the bags for everyone...

See you there!

Hi rather late in catching up with this thread but I will be there with Mrs S on Saturday night as well as the comp. Out on Friday night for a meal elsewhere so may pop in for a drink and to say hello on way if that's ok. :friday:friday:friday:friday:friday:friday::wave

Any ideas on diving venues for Saturday and Sunday yet? I won't be arriving until early Saturday morning, so can't be there for the introduction tomorrow.

misterlizard - we'll be setting the venues Friday depending on weather conditions. Best you call Mart or Myself on the morning to check. We'll send out an email Friday once we confirm anyway. Contact details for us are in the timetable and rules PDF's.

Here are the proposed dive venues but they might have to move if the wind makes conditions unsuitable
You can phone me when you get off the boat mate

Nice one, thanks.
I'll be staying with my relatives who live right down at Pleinmont, but thankfully Guernsey's not toooooo huge!

Hello I'm mac new to spearing and un sure of the rules I have a few questions ( some may sound stupid)
1- is there an age limit if so what is it
2- is there a weigh in or is it a points based competition if weigh in where and when
3 - is there an entry fee or just a social thing
4- are there prizes
5- what can't you shoot
Sorry if any of these sound stupid just in sure of rules apologies if they do , many thanks mac

Yeah I've found the list of rules but can't seem to find an age limit of there is one ? And I'm aware that the first dive spot is at perelle but Is it at 10:30 , also do you have to be a member of the forum to take part? Can the marker be ie a bobber , sorry again never taken part in any spear comp

Hello everyone I have been a member on here since 2007 but have never posted would I be able to enter the comp this weekend but I can only do Sunday as I have work on the Saturday

OK guys, the age limit for spearfishing competitions is 18.
If you want to join the fish in you need to sigh the form on page one.

hi Mac and Teedy, my suggestion would be to turn up take part and chat to the other spearos - it will be a great opportunity to look at peoples kit and get ideas. Mac if you arent 18 then come along anyway and see whats going on.
It would also be good to get the guernsey spearos talking to each other a bit more :)
Mac the float does a couple of things - it lets other spearos know where you are [and so you dont get on top of each other] and also lets any boats see you. So using a bobber may not be too good unless you can stick a dive flag on it?

What a fab reception by Mart and Sarah! We're so looking forward to seeing the early birds arriving tonight in town and everyone else tomorrow night!
