No problem start praying for some decent weather, vis , and fingers crossed a few beers and a bit of fish on the barbie and jobs a good un.

Nick

I'm up for it & hope to come down with the Picasso boys - voted for Plymouth however happy with either - see you there:)

Go for it, the more the merrier.
Just to remind everyone, this meet is not a competition. It's just a day diving around the local area and a nice BBQ at the end.

Just picked up on this post. Torquay sounds good to me...
Has anyone been out this yet yet??

Yep, its still on. I will confirm the location nearer the time when there are accurate viz reports.

Leaning more towards Meadfoot as there is quite nice diving close to shore. Mt Batten is good for a boat launch, but not much else and you'll have to drive to a spot and come back.

Hey chaps. Just a heads up but there is an ORDA powerboat race in Torbay on 26th May. The course is set to the South of meadfoot by quite a distance but if you decide Torbay is the choice for the meet keep a good look out en rout in any boats from Torquay harbour to the dive spots. Cheers Nick.

Thanks for that Coastie, I wasn't aware of that event going on.

In that case then, to play it safe, the 2013 South West Spearo BBQ will be held at Mountbatten Beach on the 26th May.

There is a free public car park opposite the entrance to the Mt Batten watersports centre, and there is a free slipway for those bringing boats. There is also a free slip and parking at Oreston.

If you're diving on the day, and you have a boat or kayak, then the whole of Plymouth Sound is open to you (apart from some restrictions). If you are on foot, then you can drive down the road a bit to Wembury / Bovisand / Heybrook / Jennycliff. There is a shipwreck in Jennycliff Bay not too far from the shore. If anyone needs directions then I'll try and provide some pointers to some shore diving spots.

The BBQ will be held approx 15:30, and I'll stick an "Alpha" flag in the sand so's you know where we are.
Please bring your own BBQ, food and drink.

If people are bringing boats along and are happy to take others out for the day, then please feel free to organize it on this thread.

I look forward to seeing you all there.

I understand Fort Bovisand has a new owner , is parking and launching (kayak) still possible at the harbour ?

You can launch at the harbour as far as I'm aware, not sure about parking though. It would be best to phone Discovery Divers who operate out of the fort and ask them. They should be able to give you much more information.

I checked with Fort Bovisand and launching and parking still OK (£3) It looks like this week the wind is staying mostly northerly which should lead to good vis around here !!! lets just hope the weather is nice for the barbecue . any idea on how many may be coming ???

I've really no idea. We'll probably be shore diving somewhere beforehand, then rocking up to Mountbatten about 2ish.

Just a reminder about the weather and tide times for the BBQ this Sunday 26th.

Weather at the moment is looking good. Light westerly winds, light cloud and about 16 degrees.

High water is at 07:00 and Low water is at 13:22. It's going to be really low too, down to 0.4m so ideal for some lobster and scallop hunting!

I'm gutted but won't be able to make the meet after all now. My wife has started working Sundays now so I'll have 4 young kids in my care who won't appreciate me chin wagging with fellow spearos when in their opinion I shouldn't dare to have interest in anything other than them!!

Hope you have a cracking day - I hope to meet up with you guys another time.

Cheers.

I'll be there with a kayak or two. I'm not a spearo being more into freediving but I'd really like to meet up with anyone for some dives. That wreck sounds cool if you have a location. I also fancy trying somewhere near the fort on the breakwater or even some dives off Drakes Island.

It will probably be better on the front of the breakwater. There are two wrecks to find there, and the remains of a Lancaster bomber.
