Tried a few dives tonight and my breath holding is getting a bit better but i still struggle to make my ears pop!

Hi Dan,

Do you mean on the way down or up? I'm guessing down. For fear of an amateur offering advice to someone experienced... The trick is start pressurising immediately when your ears go under..I start pressurising in the first 20cm...it's so much easier than trying even in 1m of water.

I've not done much spearing but done some scuba and free diving and I struggled to start with until I figured that pressurising literally right from the word go was the best way.

Excellent! You must be dead chuffed with your first landed mullet. They taste great too!

Thanks misterliazrd :friday

My worst session to date.

Purchased my new Comanche 90 from O three. Got in the water at 9:30am yesterday, 2 hours in portland harbour around high, vis was pretty poor; just about fishable, no silver or flatfish seen. Jumped in at the cove, saw just one jumbo mullet fitted with jet engines... then decided to take the long long swim out somewhere near the N entrance, saw 3 good bass zoom past on the swim out. Got to my destination to find immense shoals of small pollack down at around 7-8 meters, vis was very poor at around 1-2 meters still no decent fish seen, met another spearo out there.

Finished the day weak, shaking and exhausted so decide on an easy surface reef hunt in shallow water over a reef near Newtons Cove with a friend in tow (just starting out) 5 mins into the dive my mate was howling and screaming at me to get over to him, he was holding onto my old speargun with the line tight and loads of surface splashing, I swam over to him only to be confronted by the biggest mullet I had ever seen,,,It must have been near the 10lb mark! and it was going ballistic, unfortunately it got of the spear before I could grab it and swam off strongly into the murky gloom :head.

Ended the day with no fish, but my mate is hooked.

Podge I went looking for you all but guess you had headed home by the time I got here, did you hire it for an hour??

Quick trip down today with coops and glowworm, got to our first choice spot nice and early but not early enough as who’s car did we spy in the car part, twas the phantom fluffchucker, the man never sleep’s. So after leaving him a suitable note on the windscreen of his car:):) it was off to the backup spot.
Got in just after 8.00 and was met with below average vis, no bother though as the sea was almost flat calm so it was pleasant to be there. Not much seen out on the reef apart from the usual small Pollock and Wrasse, Fat John had a couple of Flounder and it rained tis all good.
Bank Holiday next week so fingers crossed eh. :)

Nice. Nice. Chesil is running at 8-10m viz at the mo but with a windy week on the way you needs to be quick. Piles of fish out there but I went out with the RA 100 and the Wong but nothing big enough was seen.

I see a few guys having ear issues, tuck your head in, relax, take your snorkel out of your mouth and don't do milk, orange juice ect before diving.

Good luck.

Gunned right up Bryn, like yer style.:):)
You about next weekend for a little soiree?

Anyone find any viz today? I'm thinking of jumping in tomorrow, after a fair bit of time out of the water.
Mupe Rocks - yesterday vis was 12 - 15m.
Gad Cliff - 10-12m.
St. Alban's Head, East side today was 10-15m
St. Alban's Head, West side was 7-10m.
Kimmeridge off the bay 5-7m.

Lots of fish. Me and my buddy have caught about 20kg togather and decided to stop. If we were greedy we would have another 20kg or more. My biggest bas was 3kg and the smallest one 1.7kg, pollacks at least 1kg each, mullets from 1kg to 2kg.
Very nice weekend with the visibility like in Spain.
