Ah yes I see what you mean, triple bulbs would be awkward on reflectors. Aspherics can be perfect for a tight beam but the accuracy needed to achieve it isn't seen in commercial stuff really, plus the need to have them enclosed away from water to maintain the beam adds work and reduces space. But used right they can make a really tight (but square) beam, I am sure you have seen the vids of packhorses aspheric creation on the candle power forums.
My plan indeed involves a mag light head, and maybe even body but its a design in my head and likely to remain their for some time yet
Let us know what you swap too, there is some fantastic LED stuff hitting the market these days, sadly also some real tosh!

Apologies, I didn't know aspherics could make a tight beam - I'm a bit green when it comes to optics!

There might be a chance I can get one of these but I'll have to ask:

It's a big old weapon but weighs the same as a Princeton Tec Shockwave, so not too heavy: 3 x Cree T6 LED's, deep reflector, powered by 3 x 26650 Li-ion's - hits 3,000 lumens with a tight-ish beam.

I've got a few torches so I'd keep this for the better viz days.

Current favourite is the Superstar 1000N - this thing is tiny but really powerful. Weighs ~ 200g but packs 1000 lumens for a single T6. Nice, tight beam.

Got in last night at a local spot with Ben (Fearthespear). Caught a few mackerel on spinners first, then dropped in to the shallows after dark.

Viz was absolutely terrible, up to 1.5m at best. Saw a few small flatties, a couple of small ray, some little bream, and then... a lovey big bass! I was behind and above it, so I tried to sneak around the side but it started swimming away so I had to try a shot and missed :duh Very annoying. Didn't see it again.

Was good to get in the water, but very chilly. I was really shivery after about an hour and a half - that's half an hour or so less than I was diving in February!

Just back from Gozo lovely 20metre + viz was amazed at there regs on spearfishing ! no spearing at night with torch's !

Thanks for the advice of the torches. went out monday night with lee and andy. the vize was not to great but came home with a sole,flonder and a bass. hopefully have better luck next time. missed a nice 5lb+ mullet was not happy lol

Just got back from a very productive might dive with matt and will; cheers for the company guys, it was nice diving with you both.

Species seen: black bream, tub gurnard, spotted ray, undulate ray, SE ray, sole, flounder, pouting, dab, bass, mullet, eels, smelt and starry hounds.

Nothing huge but we all added to our speci hunt tonight, best fish was one of my usual obligatory donkey mullet at 62cm and 6lb 2oz. Will had the best flatboy: a nice sole. We all had a fare share of flats and silvers tonight. Will post up pics when I get of bed.

As Lee said very interesting dive last night in a new spot for us all I think, lots of species seen and also quite a few taken , my stringer certainly was tested for size last night with a mixed catch consisting of 2 sole with the biggest at 1lb 9oz, 6 bass up to all around the 2lb mark, and 5 flounder.

All in all it was a productive dive with each of us coming back with full stringers.

Unfortunately no photos from last nights catch from me, as I only finished washing my kit off and gutting/filleting the fish at 5:00 am this morning and needed to get some sleep for work at 9:00.

Agreed it was a very enjoyable dive with Vis between 0-4m. Lots of fish seen, and for me a few shot, but nowhere near as many as lee and will, goo shooting lads, have some rep. I had a bit of a nightmare dive as I kept spooking the larger fish and missed a gurnard of 1.5-2lb and a bass around 4lb, then my torch died before the lanyard snapping. Still I managed to catch my first sole and added a Mullet to my specie hunt aswel. Will post pics in a minute

Nice dip last night with three large lobsters and a good crab, under boss indoors orders for lobsters only!!! vis was very good in that area, almost like cave diving in Mexico again!!!

Nice diving boys. Enjoy the sole Lee, they're the tastiest of all fish in my opinion.

I had a tub gurnard this morning too, in 35m of water... but it was on a 3/0 hook with a flap of mackerel on it. He he he. Had a good deep sea fishing session, with a box full of mackerel, a couple of 4lb pollack, and a 2.5lb tub gurnard.

Need to get out for a dive soon though. Stupid weather. Grr.
