Not quite sure what happened with the voting and announcement of the FOM for JUNE ( I think Johnny 250 is on holiday ) However, all but 1 vote was for spearolee and spearonobbys entries ,with nobby the winner, WELL DONE! again ,you are a prolific pair of spearos ( not sure I would like to do so much night diving ,but it gets the results ) posted trophy today ( from Penzance ) so should be with you "dreckley"

I am crap with stuff like phones ect. Cheers for the votes guys . I was chuffed with that bein my first bream and now is made made this catch more special by winning an FOM for it.
Well done on the catch lee. Felt well bad standin u up but engine breakin down and resorting to rowin bk theought the harbour entrance with tide for the front chamber off my boat deciding at that point 2 leak and leak fast really made my rowing a hell ov alot faster. Against wind and tide. By far worst dive i hav had 2 date!!!! Glad u did so well tho mate. Lesson lernt on double dives. Do the double dives with 1 buddy because if things go wrong your both in the crap. Ha ha . Yet again well done mate. B on it soon for a marathon sesh.

the blue area on Olympic map states restricted access? what does this mean exactly? a tad ambiguous?
Restricted to me could be that I can enter but under certain conditions/restrictions? not that I'm gunna bother even thinking about diving anywhere near the harbour, just wondering really.

Cheers mate. Well next time wexr out i think i might just shoot fish on your stringer seems far eaier to me. Ha ha !! Not worth the hasstle mate a work mate of mine got done today in his boat as he had 2 pass the restricted area to get to his mooring. Gon to town on him apparently. Aslo a guy that took a pic fron r work grounds was ordered by a mairne to delete it there and then also a car parked on the laby on beech rd had bomb disposal rippin it to bits as it was unatended in the layby. They r real on top of it all and not givin any leaway.
The bass haul was good and you can clearly find the fish, but that would have been 8 meals for 3 people rather than one pub lunch for 3 it were me, nothing like some home cooked bass mmm! the fact you gave the fish away is the only reason I can't give rep to you for that session (that and I probably need to spread it round a bit more first!)
It wasn't 'given away' it was bartered and seems as I had an equally good 'haul' Friday and throughout the year including the bleakest, coldest winter months and still consistently caught fish, my freezer is at a healthy state.
At the moment, as a family we are spoilt for choice on fish! however,,,,coming from a £60'000 a year income to nothing after a redundancy and a newborn baby It was a very very welcome and much appreciated trade.
My 11 year old, newborn born and the Mr's are looking forward to a well deserved meal all earnt from a hobby that I enjoy and partake in on a regular basis.
Bartering is an old age, almost lost tradition.

It's nice to have a break Once in a while from eating fish........ So in my eyes a few fish swapped for a nice steak meal is a win win situation. You are enjoying someone else's skills and also treating the mrs to a well deserved treat which means more brownie points
I bought a pair of seac fibrex fins a while back. Blades are built to last. Not carbon but are worlds apart from the plastics out there. Oh and the foot pockets are a wide fit perfect for 7mm socks during winter

Right spent ages writing this on my phone but it got lost... Grrr here's the short version:
The olympic period is now till Sept 9th.
Restrictions are in place during race hours 8am to 8pm every day.
Diving according to Portland harbour authority includes underwater swimming.
Diving is not allowed in the competition area during race hours 8am to 8pm daily. The competiton area is dark blue on the map and it extends to dungy head. It is also prohibited (as always) in the restricted areas of Portland harbour. Dive permits can be obtained for these areas by scuba clubs etc. But none will be issued during the olympic period.
These include all piers and breakwaters (and I believe 50m either side) at all times.
If we are swimmers then swimming is allowed within bouyed areas (weymouth) or up to 50m off shore elsewhere with a couple of exceptions (castletown, hamm, redbridge)
Parking is likely to be the biggest issue anywhere though old casle road is residents only and weymouth seafront is mostly shut to traffic.
Boats are a different matter if you have or use a boat or kayak you probably already know but during race hours use and access is restricted, parking is suggested at the park and ride! And slips must be booked at least 24hrs in advance.
Its certainly possible to dive in theory in some of the common areas during the games, but personally I would avoid the harbour, I don't fancy arguing with the SBS guys during a night dive.. Man in camoflague wetsuit with a gun doesn't seem to end well however I plan it out!
Also a couple of years ago they tested a underwater sonar radar thing in the harbour for the olympics to detect divers, it identified the air spaces in your lungs (it was the blue/purple easter egg floating about for a while) I am not sure if it was a success and therefore will be used or not.
What I do know is the patrols and boats are armed and active. I will definately avoid the harbour partly as I won't be able to park and partly as the thought of concerns over my intentions would likely spark a security response.

They have thermal imaging cameras to scan the surface of the water, boat entanglement devices and I think the sonar system you mentioned in the harbour. Lots of marines and quite a few sbs patrolling with navy divers also doing regular patrols. Best to avoid the harbour all together as the last thing you wanna do is p#*s these people off as you will get a lot more than a slap on the wrist
Yep what he said, all that and a whole heap more besides.. I have seen the big shiney bang sticks. Would not be fun being on the end of those.
As foir outside the harbour patrols will still be there and employing the same tactics so guess look up the restrictions and abide by them.
Now on a brighter note I feel like a dive this evening, before dark.. Any suggestions for a location?!

Hey guys, I will be making my annual trip to stay near Shepton Mallet next week and will bring my wetsuit, etc. If anyone is free and wants to join me for some freediving, perhaps at Vobster or other quarry? then i would be very pleased to meet up. i wil be free during most days...
