Keep me posted flyficker, Sunday is a goer if conditions permit.... Back to bream, the lads on the fishing boats usually tell me they are a summer species, and i know that they get caught off dorset all through the summer and into the autumn, similar to bass. Maybe they breed in shallower water than they usually habit? It is definitely on the cards (it was last year too, and the year before that...:head ) that fear, flicker and i try to target these beauties, esp having worked out how to catch them from the hms burglar!

Forecast looks great today (at Swanage, 2mph wind, sunny,...). 'Was planning to return today if weather was good but looking after sick family member instead :(. Look forward to hearing about the catches.

Went out of Mudeford yesterday on the rib and dived the reefs off Hengistbury Head. Morning started with nice weather conditions but the sea mist came in now and again and obscured the view back to the coastline. Very dissapointing though with vis only just 2m and less. Took one small bass and missed 3 'fleeting glimpse' large ones. I did see the biggest Garfish yet, which was about 80cm long!
Tried searching all the holes, etc. but nothing not even lobsters. There were 3 of us and the others also drew a blank.
Come back vis....all is forgiven.:head

I too have just been beaten by the poor viz :( Lets hope for better things next week, but this easterly wind is set for the next few days so more frustration I guess...

Hope so too Flyflicker..however, I may well have timed it perfectly to return to the lovely villa near Lindos in Greece this coming week.... :D

Hey mate, thats a huge beast congrats and have a nice tea,I'll try to get one tomorrow. When I see this sort of thinks my blood pressure start to rise to the maximum levels.:) .

Do any freediving in lindos surfnspear? i'm going there for a fortnight in september.

nice lobster glowworm! congrats!

got in on Saturday. Kayaked in from Lulworth and had high hopes for the viz as it seemed crystal clear on the paddle over, but the tide was low when I got there and viz was patchy 2-3 metres. Not many fish around but speared a pretty chunky mullet, and had a lovely bass roll off the spear due to a poor shot and slow retrieval. Gah!

Put the mullet on ice and pissed around a bit on the beach waiting for the tide to come back up. High tide was a cracking affair - heaps more fish and the viz increased to up to 4m in places. Fish all over the shop and my buddy speared a nice bass, a touch on the small side but still legal. (1st time out spearfishing lucky sod).

Great day out!

Hi John, nice lobster!
Will, there are some lovely spots for freediving there. Not too much fish though but still nice to explore. The guy who owns the villa in Pefkos loans me his speargun and weights so I do jump in.
There are some amazing crystal clear waters and shear drop offs right in front of Lindos and St Pauls Bay. I hired a boat and went for a few dives there. The colours are amazing. The other good one I think is St Nicolas/Navarone Bay (where they filmed The Guns of Navarone)
Cheers

Nice Lobster John.:)
Brett I’ll have a duty free bottle of Bombay Sapphire.rofl :friday rofl
Hopefully be down this Sunday if anybody is about?

Saw Coast last night on telly, love that show. Anyway, they're doing the south coast of England next Sunday 8.30 beeb2 (I think). The preview showed some lovely water at Durdle Door, and trip to Dawlish/Teignmouth by the look of it. Not sure where else is covered but it might be worth a look just to perve at some nice dive spots!:)

I agree - although it's in a different area, legal precedents could be set and before long our hobby and this very board could be obsolete...takes 2 minutes to wing an e-mail off...happy fishing this weekend all.

had a nice 8lb bass tonight, but generally very quiet. Vis was good, plankton dead and stringy should be completely gone in a couple of days, old man had a bass too!!

btw - i have the day off work tomorrow, so heading out to Tilly Whim - anyone about?

Loads of bass and mullet off the Bill yesterday. None of them worth shooting. The biggest was about 30cm.
