Can't sleep so thought I'd post up a Dive report.

Just came back from a nightdive with lee Alan and Nobby. I won't steal their glory and tell their storeys. Pretty early on I saw a shoal of small mullet so just watched them for a little bit. Swimming on a bit further I managed to shoot 2 mullet. My first silvers of 2013, no record breaking size but easily big enough for tea so happy. The visibility was very patchy with 2m followed immediately after by 0m being quite common. Many more fish were seen including bass (3-4lb) mullet and sea salmon/trout (up to 5lb +). The mullet and bass were very hard to shoot as they just appeared from nowhere and then quickly disappearing into the murk. Temperature was between 8-10°C so very pleasant.

As matt said tonights dive with natt nobby and alan was pretty good. Vis 0 most of the time and an amazing 1.5-2m now and again!!

Anyway, I went home with 2 mullet 2.5lb and 3lb and two bass 3lb 10oz and 4lb 9oz. And seen some nice salmon; one of 5lb swam within inches of my spear tip.

Scoobaru, would you mind letting me know what thickness wetsuit you are using. Coming down in just over three weeks and hoping the new cressi technica 5mm will keep me warm enough.

I use a 5mm Omer suit. Lots of my Spearo buddies use Cressi technica suits and they are warm enough so I'm sure you will be fine. Just make sure you have 5mm gloves and socks that are in good condition as its often the extremities (fingers and toes) that feel the cold the most.

In 3 weeks hopefully the water should have warmed up a little aswel

I have the same 5mm wetsuit & I have found myself staying about a max of about an 75 - 90 minutes. The last time I was in was about 3-4 weeks ago where it was possibly at the lowest temperatures. It may have increased by about 1 or 2 degrees since then, but I think it was about 7 or so degrees.

I have 7mm booties/socks & 5mm cressi gloves. To be fair my body seems ok of what I can remember, it's my hands & then my feet that go first & once you start feeling those then the body follows. I start feeling the cold about 45 minutes in, then I start flexing my fingers & wiggling my toes a bit to stave it off.

On my last dive my hands were a little cold before getting in due to a slight slizzle(sleet/drizzle), so it wasn't long before I was feeling it properly. You just need to get the blood flowing.

I also have a 1-2mm rash type vest underneath as well.

All filleted up ready for the fridge and freezer. Having tje biggest bass tonight.

The Picasso gun in the pic was used to nail all the fish, super accurate; didn't miss a single shot.

And u must say I was toasty last night in my picasso camo suit too.

Good effort lee...that bass is a proper fatty isn't he!!

Hopefully will replicate that tomorrow when I head in somewhere with Matt (Spiderman). Not decided on venue yet but hopefully will find some vis somewhere!

Winky..the fish are here, but the vis is almost unfishable. The harbour will have vis..but not so many fish about...it's one of those. ...very poor vis but fish or good vis and not many fish! !

I know the vis still isn't great but not managed to get in at all yet this season so getting desperate. May head down to Devon instead....will have to have a long hard think tonight and tomoz.

Hi guys. Soon i will be heading portland for my first dip in that area. Could you tell me if there are any restrictions in portland harbour for spearfishermen?? Would be grateful for any info.

Keep away from the docks area at castle town. And stay away from the walls (not allowed to fish within 50m of the arms/walls I think).

Stick to sandsfoot or ham beach. Do not venture under ferry bridge or near that area .......as the tide rips veroususly.

Sandsfoot is your safest bet at high tide over the inner reef to your left and towards castle beach. If you venture out into the blue, you will likely see a lot of boat and WAFI traffic.

Yes, about 2/3 rds out along the pipe there is often a holed up silver donkey sat there. Mist of the pipe is firm on the sand; but one section in particular is raised by about 2ft.

The very end of the pipe has eel grass with pipe fishes etc... also holds the occasional donkey, then head left following the yellow bouys, duck down at each one of these to the sand patches. Then head further inshore to the reef nr the castle.

Thought so thanks, ive only been as far up as bowleaze the harbour isnt a million miles further along might have to have a look one of these days especially if the vis is poor further east - spread my wings a bit as they say !

The other night I saw a baby squid of around 4" long. Nobby saw a cuttlefish aswel.
