Dorset Spearfishing 2013

Thread Status: Hello , There was no answer in this thread for more than 90 days.
It can take a long time to get an up-to-date response or contact with relevant users.
Right, zero hour is rapidly approaching and me and a couple of mates are heading on down to sunny Dorset on Friday. Big question is, given the horrible weather will there be any vis anywhere? Any suggestions greatfully recieved :D
Going to be staying at Cogden so if all else fails its going to be rod and line time.

Cheers

Matt

Matt

the harbour always sounds like its worth a look when the weather has been poor, however never been in there myself.
I will be down east of Weymouth on Saturday regardless and will post if I find any vis, the local guys might post before then tho.

Good luck.

Look for beaches that are protected from sw winds with no tidal movement and you may just find a couple of meters Vis. But off the top of my head I can't think of anywhere that will be decent. And I wouldn't expect anything above 2m anywhere at the moment

Another dive today. Wanted something a bit different;:

Epic You weren't kidding!!!!!

Covered some ground last night!!! 4 spots with no viz!!!

And then a spot with viz:-) that provided a lot of area to investigate....4 decent sized mullet around 4lb, 1 Bass, 1 squid and 1 lobby, missed 2 bass and seen a few more!!!

Ha ha ha :D

Yes an epic swim Indead.
Started at 8pm on a vis hunt, finally got in at 10:30pm.......and swam for prob 3-4 miles!!! Then soon realised that we also had to swim all that again to get back. ..eek! .got to car at 4:30 am!!!!!

Very dark spooky deep kelp beds provided most of the sport:

5 mullet all over 5lb; biggest I think is around 6.5lb (I will check later) and a few bass; biggest around the 5lb mark I think. Also saw a lovely seatrout of 4-5lb, so followed him for a bit until he disapeared into the kelp.

The biggest bass was spotted in 4meters of water, I saw a tail in the kelp and dove down, held bottom stayed still and he cruised out of the kelp and just in range of my picasso 85 gun.

I actually missed another bass of 7lb ish :( and seen two other bigger ones with a mullet; but these two looked in love.....and just about to get it on; so I left them.....Alan later reminded me that fish don't actually have sex.

My legs are killing and I need sleep, it's my daughters birthday today, so I had no chance of my bed :( :(

Going out this afternoon (scuba) on lulworth banks to do a couple of scallop drifts, if the vis is any good, may be looking at getting out tomorrow to fish (spear) the slack on the shambles then maybe some drifts on the sheltered side of Portland 6.5M rib with a 200hp on the back so could take 6+ gear comfortably. Usually do a 2 in the water system. May be a couple of spaces depending on availability of the usuals. Anyone interested?
