Last nights dive: had 6 meters vis; but severe lack of fish 
.....so ended up taking a couple of snaller 2-3lb bass a 2lb turbot and a few plaice and flounder just a smidge under 2lb. Oh well worth a try. I didnt see one single bass over 3lb!!!! Grrr
Still enjoyed the swim.

Evening all,
As I said in a previous post I'm dropping the wife off at the airport tonight and she won't be back til Tuesday so I intend to use this weekend productively by diving as much as I can. However as there has been reports of bad vis with the dreaded bloom showing its ugly head and the wind picking up any heads up on the vis would be greatly appreciated....

Well did my first night dive last night. Went in at 11pm for 2 hours.Viz was about 3 metres temp 9c. Felt ok and safe. Saw more life than my last dive 3 seeks ago. Saw my first lobster but failed to get it. Only saw 1 silver and got the safety stuck on my new pneumatic gun so it got away but later got a flounder. Great night, slept in the car before the 2 hour drive home. Thanks to Lee and Nobby for advice.
I dived yesterday after work, still plenty of good vis around and more fish than I have seen all year!
Did Newtons Cove Wednesday, part day & night dive. The vis was about 4m, a few spiders around. No silvers seen, just a large shoal of non take-able pollock, saw a huge cuttle, but didn't take him. I tapped him on his back with my spear & he turned around & gave me the tentacle..........
Cesar came away with a cuttle & a few spider crabs, one was a large male. I came a way with about a 2lb flattie.
We did try Osmington & Ringstead, but seemed a bit blowy, so went drove to Newtons, so a bit of a mammoth 3 hour swim, maybe not as mammoth as some.

Alan and I hit weymouth last night. 4m vis.
Alan got a nice lobby, a few good bass 4-5lb and some flaties.
I also managed 5 bass in the 3-5lb range and plenty of good flaties.
A nice relaxing dive, until a group of huge salmon swam into me; one of 6-7lb hit me in the face.

A good night then Lee!
Went in over the high tide on Sunday in Portland Harobour. Vis varied between 3-5m. Not much seen. Just one very good size (7lb+ i guess) bass who was just out of range before dissapearing!
Back to night dives for me I think! Hope to get in once at least over the bank holiday not sure when will check on tides and conditions.

OK cool but that is a bit like saying I caught a couple of round fish last night!
Its just that I am interested to know what type of flatfish you catch in the same way as I like to know what sort of round fish you catch!
For me a flatty is usually a flounder/plaice/dab that I didn't spear so didn't actually identify as in "there were some flatties but I left them to grow", or a flatty can be a fish that should have been there but wasn't as in "spent some time checking the sand for flatties"

Ha ha yeah fair point . Its just a term that we all use . The same as wen we ask where somethin/ some1 is. We say for example where is lee to? In that question you hav asked where the person is twice. Norm wen flatty is used it is then extended to say wot type it is. So by the non mention im guessing flounder. But me personally if i do catch any flat fish soon i will state wot fish after stating flatty.
