Winds picking up and looks like rain. Soon be time for Nick and me to head for Devon to search for some flatties. I wonder where they be to?

Tbh.....for me a 'flattie' is a term used for run of the mill plaice and flounder; a generalisation of the species.

If get a turbot I will say turbot, same as if I ever get a brill.

I think it's the fact that plaice and flounder of 1-2lb are prolific species here and thus nothing to particularly shout about.

I never use the term 'round fish' we tend to use the term silver fish instead which describe run of the mill bass and mullet; again the term is only used fir fish not wirth shouting about.

Believe you me if I catch an angel shark I will be shouting squatina squatina!!!!

Another marathon swim with lee last night!

Two Bass 4lb and 4lb 9oz



Also found a 2lb 10oz lobster hiding in the side of a reef



Along with a few flatties to 1lb 12oz and a 2lb sole, all in all most enjoyable with lots of other species seen

Got a pair of Cressi Gara LD3000 and a Spearo Cazador 75 for a good home I would accept 50 squid for both, let me know if you're interested mate..

Swam from Ringstead to Osmington. Pretty good viz - 4-5m milky. One small wrasse seen. I swim in a different sea to the rest of you!

There are definitely two seas...I just need to find out how to get into the one with all the fish and lobsters. Mine has tonnes of kelp, a few sea snails and the very very occasional 10cm wrasse. If ever I find the good sea, I shall let you know robdigital.

Keen to know how the lobbies are found...do you just keep pushing all the kelp away or are they always in smalll 'caves'? I've never seen one.

Didnt get in in the end would of been like being in a washing machine, alot calmer now its dark maybe i should think about investing in a torch. Fingers crossed for a bit of calm tomorrow.

Did white nothe this morning, good visibility, sea a bit choppy water down the snorkel a few times. Really getting back into the swing of things just no fish to show. Sandeels about and came across first spider crab this year. Did also try and feather up a few mackerel but no luck with that either. Was hoping it would of been a bit calmer the wind was supposed to be from the north early but it wasnt.

Was hoping it would of been a bit calmer the wind was supposed to be from the north early but it wasnt.

I was at west bexington also tossing tinsel but no luck there either. 2 bands of may water clouding up the water and couldn't find the fish in the clear band. Kicking off the season with some night dives next week, hoping for better viz than i saw today.

Hi guys, I managed to get in the water twice this weekend with some fair vis located though the bloom is amazing to see from the cliff tops in many areas. Saturday evening resulted in a PB bass which I was very chuffed with as it weighed in at 8lb 5oz.

Sunday, I was keen to get in during the day light hours again as whilst it's often not more productive I think I enjoy it more. Mike and I Looked at a few spots around Portland before deciding to get in at one. The vis looked almost Mediterranean from the cliff top but proved to be a healthy 4m once in. Plenty of mullet seen but only one bagged for a few reasons really. Firstly I was using a different gun to my usual one and noticed I was shooting high 4 times out of the five shots I took. Secondly the fish were really skittish, I usually find if mullet see me they cruise away, often slightly out of range but these were rocket ships and the vis seemed perfect for them to see me before I saw them even when hugging the floor.

I must have seen at least 50 mullet, some on their own, and others in shoals of up to 8 fish, it was great to find some vis and see the fish are back in shore.

Good luck spearing this week, I will be looking forward to getting in again next weekend.

That's a fine specimen if a fish. I'm glad that spot finally came good for you. Next time venture a bit further east and around the headland. ......very very long swim..but well wirth a look
