It just said in the paper about the coastguards getting called out to a missing spearfisherman at balaclava bay, Ive just been told, its quite probable he turned up safely quite a while later so I was checking if anyone knew them and if everything was ok with no serious dramas.

Not me mate, but thanks for the concern. I haven't been diving much recently as the weather's been so good for flying and there's no May bloom in the air!
Had my second night dive last night. Viz was 3 to 4 m and temp was 11c. Much more seen than last time including about 8 spider crab and the same of lobsters which I still dont seem to be able to pick up. Partly cos I am a wussy when it comes to things with claws. How ever I had a Pollack and my best Bass so far at just under 4lb. A fantastic night for me which started with a Fox stealing a glowstick while I was asleep in my sleeping bag. He woke me up and can have been no more than three foot from me. I went in at 1.30 and got out at 4.15. Must admit I like night spearing. Hi to the other spearo who was camping out and going in in the morning. Sorry I forgot your name.

Drifted the Bill today on the incoming tide. Had my omer 100cm prepped with my Gopro (hopeful I know). Of course I hit the water and could just make out the end of the spear. I was committed to the drift by this point so persevered with my 55cm gun. Some how I managed to get two mullet around the 3.5lbs for my troubles.
I then briefly hit another spot towards Weymouth and managed to swim straight over a plaice followed 20mins later by a 4lb mullet. Felt a little bad though for the mullet as the poor fella didn't have a right eye so never saw me coming. . . . . .
Of course it could have been my awesome steathlynessrofl
I'm trying again tomorrow. I like the idea of a dive at Winspit, but with the bloom and easterlies I don't think I'll be risking it. I've already walked down once this year kitted up only to have 50cm vis.

Took another dip last night. The vis was changing dramatically with the tide. I got in to see a whopping 1m vis at midnight and was immediately thinking of where else might work whilst I swam on. However after 100m or so the vis started to improve up to 3m+ which I was very happy with so I ditched any thoughts of getting out and swam on.
I saw whiting, small eels, flounder (all small) and then bagged a few mullet. I followed a bass of around the 3-4lb mark but he had me figured and kept just out of the range I was confident to pull the trigger. It was fun following him though, waiting for the perfect shot, that on this occasion never occurred. Towards the end of the swim I managed a couple more mullet before turning back only to see the vis dropping off with the incoming tide.
Still, it was a good session and probably my last night dive until the end of September as I'm away with work.
I will be looking forward to hearing you reports over the summer.

Hi All,
I'm currently posted to Bovington and have got myself kitted out for spearfishing. Went for the first time in Devon at the weekend and have got the bug (and thats with bad vis and my admin up my hoop).
Got lots to learn and really want to smash as many trips as possible this year. If there are any trips around Dorset/Devon I'd love to tag along.
I'm also a keen kayak angler and would like to do some spearfishing from my kayak.
If you don't mind a newbee tagging along please get in touch.

FairPlay slickly with up to 3m viz! Shame about the Bass mate but hey there will be plenty about ready for September;-)
Hi, thanks for the update and nice to meet you the other night. As a newcomer I need to work on my accuracy - missed two sizeable bass on the turn of the afternoon low tide to high. As the high tide came in the vis decreased a lot. I took a couple of spider crabs for the camp.
It was quite windy on the night you fished (and last night too!) - was unsure if you would enter the water... who dares certainly wins in this case. A worthwhile trip for you I bet.
