Dorset Spearfishing 2013

Tunny if thats the case that is a simple fix and brob to your advantage. Valve section of a bike innertube glued over the hole. Use 1 part rib glue or i rather the 2 part. Cleanwith thinners first then put a primi.g coat on let dry. (20 min )then repeat then third hit would b glueing coat. Wait till tacky then stick together. Push down the area hard with thumb or using a roller. Leave for 24 hours then can inflate and ready to go in the water. Exactly the same as an inflatable rib repair and will b strong as u like. With the added bonus of bein able to inflate from a normat bike/pump. Seconds if u hav the i. The car lighter jobbys. Prob your cheapest option.

Hi, in January I moved to Hampshire, I live just north of Portsmouth and wondered if anyone could suggest or pm me a good, safe spot for me to have my first session of the year? I normally head to south Devon, but with moving house, Dorset is easier now.

I have a kayak to dive from, so ideally could do with somewhere with reasonable access, and within a 1.5 hr drive.

Any ideas much appreciated. Also, if any other spearo's are nearby to petersfield and fancy a dive give me a pm.

Well made the journey down with a pal to do some fishing/spearfishing. Feathered for mackeral for a while by Chesil Cove and blanked, viz was poor. Went to the east side of Portland and got in, 3m viz. Saw lots of small Pollack, Wrasse, spider crabs, bait fish, sandeels but nothing takeable. Temp was 12c. My mate caught a small wrasse on a rubber lure.
Left there to fish for Bass at Sandbanks for the evening to be rained off. None the less a very pleasant day and far better than working.

Excellent thanks for the advice Nobby, now just need to find a right angled inner tube valve! - Might have to buy one from ebay me thinks.

Could go to Halfords & buy an inner tube(small pram type) & canabalise it. I bought couple for my 3x3 kiddies push chair last year. May save waiting to be delivered if you want to crack on & sort the bladder out & get out on the water quick.

Will have to say that was my plan either that or nick one from the spare pram!

Either that or just use wot eva valve u can find. A simple hole cut in outer skin with hole punch then fit dust cap to valve once inflated to stop salt water / sand gettin in then jobs a goodun. Glad i could help.

does anybody know how viz is in durdle door. last times it was jus mist, water 0-3m no good at all. maybe somewhere is better place. can you advice guys. thanks Anthony all the best!!!!

Had a nice dip today with Clive, mainly to test my new Picasso UK smooth skin suit, (which was fabulous, and I did a review here... http://forums.deeperblue.com/spearf...-review-picasso-ultimate-skin.html#post912009)
Anyway, viz looked ok at the chosen spot but turned out to be worse than we hoped with 3m max but really cloudy with bloom with it. I got in and swam left, while Clive went right, for a while seeing nothing but small spiders and pollock then out of the string weed came a school of 6 bass they spotted me and did that little sideways shimmy before shooting off, I seized the chance and stoned the biggest (3lb) with a nice shot immediately behind the gill plate, swimming on I was seeing nothing else so changed tact a bit and moved shallower the swell was pretty big and I was getting tossed over a rock when a monster of a head turned to look at me, took me a second to register it as a cracking mullet, which left no time to turn my 80 onto him, and he casually swam on... I spent a while looking for it but it wouldn't be found, an honest size estimate would be 8-9lb very easily, so a real dog! By this time Clive had caught me up having seen nothing his side and swam out a bit before coming in to a point leaving me a patch to fish undisturbed. Carrying on in the shallows the swell was getting worse so I nipped to the edge of a drop, as I peered over a ledge I thought I spotted a big tail. A brif flutter of my C4's and I was there in about 6m but alas it turned out to be a bit of kelp! As I turned to retreat I spotted something that was definitely not kelp... A large grey head was off to the side and having spotted me about to vanish, I slowly moved round and just as it beat its tail I let the 80 fly, I hit it but low so powered after the fish, grabbing it by the tail as it was off like a rocket before working up to its gills, I ended up ina right tangle but had the fish! A lovely healthy bass of6.55lb (as weighed when we made it back to the car) happy as a sand boy I swam on ever hopeful of another. Sadly it wasn't to be. Soon I was swimming over ground behind Clive and seeing nothing so it was time to call it a day. All in all a cracking and enjoyable dive.

Just eaten half of him BBQ'd and very nicely it went down too. Assuming the weather holds I will be in again on Tuesday after work.

Got a couple of boats lined up to view as well still fighting on storage but hey ho I am sure it will all come good!

Lovely fish Ickle.

Got in twice today. This morning was not too bad bit cloudy but only small Pollack seen - did get two lobsters though and had one on a bbq for lunch. This afternoon seemed a lot clearer - not sure if that was down too if being sunnier than earlier, managed 1 Bass that came straight towards me turned right at the last second I could see it was a taker, put a nice shot behind the gill plate.

Will be eating Bass and Lobster for tea tomorrow.

Had a few more bass, lobsters,sole, plaice, crab, scallops and flounder.
