Dorset Spearfishing 2013

Well, seems as this spell of amazing weather is nearly over, Alan and I have decided on another overnight adventure to the deepest inaccessible, unfished, unknown part of the world.......the place just screams a 16lb bass!!!

Campervan packed and ready to go. Will post up lots of pics abd a detailed report of our adventures. If u don't hear from me then asume we've only managed a few under 5lb; but I'm fairly optimistic about yhis new spot.

Gearbox went on mine at 50,000 miles say good bye to 1200£ at least! Massive fault with vw if you ask me, will they cough up....... Not before hell freezes over!

Im actually more gutted that those giant bass have evaded my spear tip during my epic 2m dives.

Guess I just have to hope for another window to get back to the sacred ground.


I might need to push myself to 4m and 20 second holds tonight looking for dustbin lids (thats a large plaice
Going local (ish) tonight and drown my sorrows.

I have heard of Turbot being called dustbin lids... I cant wait to see a plaice that big!
Bad luck with the motor but perhaps it is fate.....good luck mate.

Well, no flatfish hunt tonight due to change of venue. We tried a completely new spot. Not much about appart from lots small bass 2-3lb so we left them.

First fish I see is a 6lb bass almost imeadeatly, took a rushed shot and missed only ti be hit in the arm by a double . Went on another 20 Yards and seen the six pounder and hit him this time. I managed a few others 4-5.5lb. As I was getting out (where I saw the double) I was collectimg some porous rock for my aquarium wuth my gun unloaded and that blooming guant bass came up in 3ft of water and just a few feet from me, he just sat there, so I grabed my gun only to find the line tangled around my fins .......needless to say that the bass lives another day.

Vis was 2-4m and the swim was 4 miles.

Hi guys,

I'm moving to dorset in the next couple of weeks and wanted drop a line. I've been spearfishing in Devon for the last couple of years but exploring Devon/Hampshire coast will be new to me.

If anyone is free for a dive at some point it'd be great to meet a few like minded gents.

Otherwise if anyone has any general pointers about where to start looking around I'd be really grateful. I'll be living in Poole initially and then probably moving to the Ringwood area. Is Christchurch worth investigating?

Lovely plump fish there Lee - you need a bigger chopping board ?! Should be getting in later hope the vis is ok - Sunday doesn't look like its going to be any good though winds looking to pick up.
