You have to dive 3-4 metres then look up up for shadows of the fish

Anyone out today? Looks flat but no idea what the vis is like. Might get in around boscombe pier, providing there aren't too many with rods on top

Southbourne is flat, the water looks sandy brown up until the second sand bar.

Once you get passed the second sand bar into deeper water it may be ok, the water looks clearer out there.. however it's deeper up to about 11 meters. I may try first thing in the morning for some flatties... even at 11m I doubt I can stay down for long - I am fit but not dive fit - a few sessions should sort that out.

Went for a dive last night in a tide run a few pointers from my dive buddy and for the first time wasn't actually that bad enjoyed popping in and out of the tide trying to hunt fish.

I missed out last year on spearing due to a major injury so this year I am trying to get out as much as I can when I can. New areas I've never dived, diving in tides and desperately trying to improve my breath hold and fitness

Got in at Fishermans Walk, Southbourne this morning. Took the last hour and a half of the flooding neap tide down to Warren Edge, Southbourne, got out and walked home (will collect the car later). Slack was around 08.50.

Vis was a milky .5 m close inshore. At depth further out (nearer to the fishing net/pot markers) it cleared closer to the bottom at times - up to 1m. Still too poor vis to fire a 85cm band gun, but ok enough to stab any flattie. I didn't see any, only a couple of spiders. I think the depth I was diving was 8-9m. A good first dive of the year for me.

Does anyone know what the off shore reef off of swanage is called? I remember hearing about it ages ago and thought I'd give it a try when weather permitting.

Something like the cannonball reef or something (although that might be a local name rather than the official one!)

Hit it last night after a mare of a day...fuel pump on van died was supposed to meet up with ceaser. I managed to blag a lift of my brother,,,however that realy is a deadly trade off; my brother stabs flatfish then pulls them off the loaded gun whilst pointing in his face, will freeze to death in mid summer, can only swim 10 yards then gets cramp, gets caught up in every rip tide, get lost at sea in thick fog *ask Nobby* hence not hooking up with ceaser....

Anyway....vis was crap 0-1m realy was that bad! So stayed in 1m of water, my brother got stuck crossing the river mouth; started screaming so I rescued him (again). Lots if big smothounds about and tons of schoolie bass (nothing takable)..my brother got cold and started moaning, so I shot a donkey mullet and got out
