Hey all,
Had a nice couple of dips yesterday. Started off early with Titus to a new spot for us both, we were off in search of Bream after gleaming some valuable info on Friday. Took the small boat as launching facilities were less than adequate and headed out with the crak of dawn, unfortunately someone forgot to tell us about the rather strong offshore wind, this made diving our choosen spot rather hard. 3-4m swells in a 3m boat is not fun and trying to relax into the 20m dives required wasn't easy with wind and surf raging around you. We managed a few drops each keeping a live boat, the spot looked promising but it started to get worse and wasn't safe to stay. Plus the harsh conditions were not helping the diving and our bottom times were no where near long enough. We gave up and moved into the shelter of the headland, where we enjoyed an hour or two looking at a wealth of marine life finally heading in at lunch with a lobster a piece and a bonus spider crab. We both managed to miss decent pollack at 14-16m too, and zero luck with the Bream, although we had the right spot as it was invaded by fishing boats shortly after, grrrrr. Vis was nice though 50cm of plankton then at least 6m vis everywhere.
Met a SA spearo going in as we got out heading off in search of Bass, was it anyone on here?
Went back for a pint and some lunch then met with a friend down from London for a very brief one hour dip down the road (had to be brief we were racing the other halves home so we weren't found out diving instead of shopping/tidying etc!) After a wander along the beach accompanied by some odd lucks and comments about lack of fish from the beach casters we got in, vis again was good at maybe 5 or 6m but with a few bloomed up patches. Swam out and disturbed a good bass straight away, he vanished then nothing for half an hour finally when I turned to head in I spotted some Bass eyeing me up on the edge of the vis, I dropped to the bottom in 5m of water and waited sure enough they came in and one strayed a little too close for my 100 T20. Stoned him too which was nice. Typically while stringing him and reloading a bigger fish buzzed me but escaped unscathed. After getting reloaded I hung around for a bit but saw no more bass I did however see another Sea Trout, thats two in a week.. resisted pulling the trigger though!
Got out after about 45mins total dive time with a nice 4lb bass. Titus had managed one himself apparently he dropped down while I was stringing mine unseen by me and picked a bass off, exactly the same size. Our friend James, although spotting a few fish drew a blank.
Great dive and beat the other halves home so an added bonus! We donated the mornings lobsters and the bass to a nice communal feast of sushi and lobster salad, with a bit of bubbly thrown in for good measure.. Off now to nurse a slightly sore head.
