I would say that someone has had a shot at that sole already. Sole fight like crazy when speared, and can all to easily be lost. All the thrashing around they do can cause the damage seen on the one you have. Just cut around the wound when filleting to neaten it up. Tasty Fish!!:friday

Well, whoever had a pop at him couldn't have been a very good shot - they've gone right through the best part of the fillet. I'll probably cook first and cut second (whole, rather than filleted).
I agree though Trelawny, he was remarkably strong and feisty for his size - thrashing around like a demon!
