It can take a long time to get an up-to-date response or contact with relevant users.
Having a better general condition is helpful. It helps a lot in having a faster recovery times, returning to your resting heart-rate, lowering the resting heart-rate. On the other hand for competitions a good condition is enough, but having a high metabolism is contra productive.
But since you're aiming for many 20m dives, a better condition is helpful.

I'm now 38, and have been a dry fish for a while until last year I got a new buddy. I noticed that I needed to relearn to relax past contractions. I also noticed how my VC has reduced. Training static, and using pack stretches is very helpful for me to get back to my former skill levels.

Giday Kars and thank you so much for the response. I have read many of your informative posts. Today I found the thread on FRC which is of particular interest to me so I will study wealth of information there. Its unbelievable the variation in techniques that have been applied to this sport. I have found comfort in the diversity of concepts, many of which mirror the way I dive, like not overfilling on inhale. I just need to get up to speed on the abbreviations used so I can gain full value from others knowledge. So good luck with your return to training.

Well, in about 21 hour's I'll be doing my first DNF comp in a long time. We will see how much luck I get/need :D
Since my muscles are pretty well supplied by blood by my cardio vascular system, I need to prepare and dive in such way to keep my circulation as low as I can. Swimming normal power strokes raises my circulation, leading to late / little / no vascular constriction, which means a high O2 use by my muscles throughout the dive. In such dives I come up ok, but I have no lactic build up..
So tomorrow's dive is going to be very slow. When I get surprised by the wall I know that my mind is in flow. My dive's focus is on keeping the circulation low, and body relaxed.

Yes Deeperblue is a treasure of knowledge, it just needs some decoding from time to time ;)
