Ok folks, so the July FOM Poll is open now: http://forums.deeperblue.com/uk-ireland/95637-fish-month-competition-july-2012-a.html

Quite a few people have entered more than one fish for the speccie hunt [well done] but not specified which fish is intended for the FOM entry; so i have made the choices for you and i hope you dont mind! :)

It is great to see so many different species being entered, well done guys! I will updated the speccie comp details shortly...

Yeah congrats Nick - beautiful fish! Your mantle piece must be groaning by now with all those trophies!!

I thought I might have sneaked a win earlier on in the week, oh well - must find a bigger bass now.......

Thanks Jonny and Winky. Nice bass you had there Winky and a close vote this time. Terry what was it you said about winning it twice? The offer still stands.
Thanks to everybody that voted in the July FOM and the guys that entered fish in it.

Only a few years back that bass would of been a positive winner!
A 10lb bass is a bench mark fish for many spearos but, as big plaice & sole become more & more difficult to find, they are becoming the fish to catch.
Still both fish would of been worthy winners - well done to both of you guys.

Well done again Shiny , It's a shame spearfishing is not an Olympic sport ,as you would probably have enough gold medals to replace your weights !!!! I will send the trophy in a few days , and will get in touch about your offer sometime soon ..thanks , Terry..

Lee the ground you dive used to be good ground for plaice and im sure there is spots there that still hold them. Nobody looked for them down here,saying they were all fished out. Once i found the type of ground they like i started finding them regular. The last time i dived i found another new spot on my fishfinder. A quick look found 2 plaice a turbot and a nice lobster. Hoping to dive it again tomorrow.
Yes your right there Mart,a 10lb bass was a winner a few years ago on here. Big flatties are harder to find these days.
Matt pity there wasnt a trophy for wind up of the month. Your shark story had us all going!!

I agree on big bass v's big flattie, it was always my ''gold standard goal'' to get a double figure bass but now that I've had one I'm not sure if I'll take another one - if I ever see one that is!! Such beautiful beasts to see swimming!! Although scored massive brownie points with my Italian Father-in-Law cooking it 'al cartoccio' for him and the rest of my wife's family who were down visiting this weekend!

Big Flattie is now definitely my new goal......any advice Shiny? From one Nick to another?

Winky Nick,find the right ground and the plaice will find the end of your spear. You also need the Kill Bll (Colonna Sonora) music playing while diving,the plaice love it!!

Well folks, here is the current speccie hunt leaderboard:
Well done to JerseyMike, Spearolee, Scoobaru and Nobby for finding such a range of fish!
SpearoLee may have one more to go on the list but i am just waiting for final confirmation regarding the golden grey mullet from the DB staff.

it sounds like Jerseymike has found a few extra speccies, so you uk guys will have to get huntin'... ;)

p.s. its getting hard to keep track of all the species, so if i have made a mistake just give me a nudge!

So here's my challenge for you speccie leaders:
Spearolee: find a plaice and a bream
Spearonobby: find a red mullet, sole and decent sized pollack ;)
Scoobaru: find a mullet and a bream
JerseyMike: big fat turbot...

Just my ideas of course - it will be interesting to see what actually comes along eh... :)

Ok mate. Challenge accepted. I've already been planning a few trips to target red mullet an bream. Gutted as I missed a guilthead of about 4lb a couple of months ago. And have seen a couple more since but been unable to get a hot off. And red mullet I've only seen small ones.

OK I've got my plaice and a trigger too. Keep seeing blacks and gilts; all undersize.

Just noticed that my golden greys havn't been added to the comp yet? Ive put 2 in now in case of any confusion over the identity, the last one i entered at the end of july is 100% a golden grey as it has no nodules on lips a concaved pec fin a as slimey as they come. Can this be added? Cheers :)

Now for these blooming bream, just need to wait for the S winds to calm

Looks like i have black white and gilthead bream, a dab, brill and a turbot left on my list, oh and a red gurnard.

Ive never even seen a white bream, dab or brill i best start doing some homework.
