Another question

How, where do I attach the stringer? Sorry if I sound stooooopid, it's just occured to me!

I Cary 2 stringers with me a steel one on my flout and a mono stinger on my belt, my belt stringer is only used if in a shoal of fish and i dont want to be fussing around putting fish on my flout, its mono so it can be cut in a emergency.

If my belt stringer becomes to heavy i put fish onto the flout stringer, its steel so there is no chance of it breaking and losing all my fish.:)

Just put the loop on the belt then tuck the rest in were its comfortable.:)

Hi all,
Just to keep you posted with the gower, went in on Sat to a spot called Mewslade - there was a 2ft swell with a nice offshore wind so I pretty much knew that the area around the point where I wanted to go would be unfishable and also the vis would be bad.
Got in and it was - 1 metre vis so stayed in the bay area and used it as a training session to practice my aspetto and get my weighting sorted, needless to say so life seen!

Tecdave as soon as it is worthwhile down here it terms of vis I will let you know am very eager to learn. Mr X thanks for advice I think I will work at the spearo first and then go from there! The Cobra place has relocated not far from me in a place called Baglan near Port Talbot. Planning to go for a dive tomorrow will let you know.
Cheers
Matt

Dived a spot called Pennard yesterday vis was bad- 1m. Swam around to the point by Pobbles bay and the vis cleared to about 2m lots of life on sea bed, just not the fishy variety. Returning today.

It was quite strange the way in which the vis would go from about half a metre to 2m's? Has anyone experienced vis changing in different areas? I think the vis cleared because we were over a reef as opposed to sand??

Dived Mewslade again today at LW vis about 2.5 metres. Lots of Swansea bay Trout around (dogfish) but no bass etc sighted.

Hi,

Also a spearo in Swansea....welcome! Glad to see you're braving the Gower this time of year. I usually go spearing during the summer with a mate also living local. Conditions have to be really good for us to dive the Gower, when they are there is usually bass around. Often find we have to head out west for better vis.Probably a bit early for bass at the moment, but you never know. Good luck.

Justin

Thanks for that Mr X, I hope it does not go through I've only just gotten into the sport! I will be gutted!

Hi Dave

I've just done my ** with Sam and Saltfree over in Chepstow. Sorry I'm not a spearo (at least not yet), but am trying to find someone/ somewhere in or around Cardiff that does pool training so that I can get into this freediving lark a bit more. Sam mentioned your name.

If you or the other guys can help please let me know.

Cheers

Derek

Hi Derek,

I havent done any pool training for a long time!!! but I would be up for it if we could find a pool. I will be moving house soon and will be only 5 mins walk from Maindy. Not sure about their veiws on apnea but can give it a go.
Will send you a pm with my mob number on it, give me a call some time and we can sort somthing out.

Dave

Hi Dave, thanks for getting back to me so quick! I'll give you a buzz later and hopefully we can sort something.

Cheers for now

Derek :friday

Nearly had a heart attack when I saw that pic!!! it is exactly the same gun with the same knot in the line but it is in much better condition than my old fav!!

Went out yesterday to west wales and spent 4 and a half happy hrs in the water!! Got one 3.5lb Bass, 3lb mullet a pollack, Lobster and some crab!! not to bad a day but the viz was a bit pants.

One very weird thing was a sonic boom type sound that happened at 1.34 and 1.41 pm it was the loudest thing I have heard in the water like a real turbo thunder stick going off next to you???????? Any ideas? I heard that they were doing some oil/gas exploration which uses explosions etc to measure densities in the sea bed, but this must disturb the dolphins in the bay?

Dave,

Can't believe you saw far enough to shoot your fingers, let alone a fish. I've mates down west going beserk through lack of vis....I've only been in 4 times this year but had good bass out. How far down were you as mates well down west???

Rob

Yeah it was not great viz,
I was between Cardigan and New quay, Viz was ok in the bays but very patchy on the headlands where the current is. Also noticed areas that are normally covered with kelp to be totaly barren?? maybe the storms have ripped it up or that the viz has been that bad that the light hasent been able to penetrate to bellow 5m??

Hi, me and a friend are probably gonna go spearing tomorrow morning on the Gower. First time in this year. Don't think the viz will be all that but hey its worth a laugh. We've had a few successes over the last 2 years here, but like you guys have siad, you've gotta get the conditions right for viz on the Gower. Will let you know how we get on.

Joel.

Ross - i think its one season all, how about a pint and a packet of scratchings on this season?

Trindo - how was the Gower - I really want to get over there but I can't believe the recent rain will allow for any decent vis - the severn must really be kicking out some dirt right now?
