Guernsey 2007

Thread Status: Hello , There was no answer in this thread for more than 60 days.
It can take a long time to get an up-to-date response or contact with relevant users.
Good luck to the guys in the speccie hunt this w/e.
Anyone used chervy/groundbait for spearfishing - or would that be tooo much like cheating??
I enjoyed the TV program, since they were spinning for Garfish, i guess they might have tried a flying C or chug-bug for the mullet :)

Ok then you night divers of Guernsey I’ve just ordered one of these.
What’s the word on the street with regard to quality and value for money?
Paid £82.99 for it from the cheapest place I could find.
Any input would be appreciated.

I just finished a long search for LED torches and I thought that one was the best value. Seen the ordinary bulb version in the flesh and it looks good. Was tempted to get one but my UK C8 is still going strong and as my colour plotter on the boat stopped working and I still only have one Omer Ice fin, I decided against any additional expenditure.

So, all in all, I think you definitely got a good torch there Paul.

For all you night divers I have some news for you, I have been reading about the development of LED lighting for use in illuminating marine aquaria (another interest).
The Americans seem to be the most advanced but the Germans are very close behind. Anyhow they have developed a particular wavelength that penetrates sea water like no other light source! The benefits for the reef keeper are huge because the best source of light at the moment comes from metal halide which produces lots of heat & cost a fortune to run.
The new wavelength LEDs are being used in Audis new super car for head lamps so I guess they can be battery powered? Unfortunately the new light system for a average size marine tank cost £1000!

podge give us a bell when it comes and we'll go and get it wet! went for a night dive in a gravel pit the other day man the water was cold face was on fire! seen loads of pike hiding the weed and out on the gravel lots of small perch some nice ones up to 2lb! i was lookin for the monster carp that live in there but they were no where to be seen.

Does anyone know anything about this one - in North Quay Marine for about £30? Doesn't look quite designed for diving though, as there doesn't seem to be any kind of strap.:)

Colin, instead of wasting lots of lots of 20-30quids just buy a proper torch. I know nothing about it but I'd wager that one would be no different in terms of output to what you've got.

Anyway, if anyone out there (Ed) is interested, I know somewhere over here that you are guaranteed a Gilthead, if you're accurate enough ;)

Omer Ice replacement blade arrived today. Only 8 weeks but at least Scubaland came through in the end.

Tanky think the vis will be messed up after the last blow but no plankton at the moment so it should clear plus neaps as well which will help. Not seen much in the daytime but a few fish last week on night dives. Go get a gilty and show us how it's done. Sure you know where they are.

Thanks Dave, think i'll give it a go anyway just for ha ha's. I'm not too sure about the Giltys at the moment though either as I havnt been able to get out and fish recently but if I find any (DOUBTFULL) I'll let you know.

Tom - Not yet mate but it's on the way. If you go for a night dive in the meantime let me know, i've got a torch to use.

Tom, are you on commission or something!:t Actually, I have got a birthday coming up, so I might just do that. Podge, your "hairdryer" seems to come well recommended - let me know how you get on. The FA & Mi look very good too, but I think they're a bit pricier. Johnny B, have you tried yours yet?:) I'll just have to hope the vis is still holding out by mid-December! Tom, pls. PM me the gilthead spot ( just by the gills, right?:)) Nice fish btw.

(p.s. also saw this bit of kit which might be handy for holding a small extra torch for stringing etc: Aqua Tec Stretch Strap in Underwater Lights,Accessories from Simply Scuba )
