I managed a quick dip this evening, vis was appalling. Didn't see much, but it was a pleasant enough swim with a clearish sky and bright moon, I found a spot with offshore wind so it was pretty calm. Anyone know what the 'lightning' flashes are that have been going on since around 6pm? (go on, tell me that'll be lightning then... ;-) )

Hmm.. let me see... sea water ... a good electrolyte ... a long thin excellent conductor of electricity - well at least the gloves are insulating!
:)

I may be yet be in the market for another Mamba, at the right price!:)

wondering the same thing Jonny. Noticed them at 5 while down at St Georges, don't think it was lightning though. Aliens probably...

Is that a rubber bung in the muzzle that seals direct to the shaft?

Mmmm, brilliant if it works! Going to have to have a very precise hole in it though so as not to provide too much resistance to the shaft if its too tight, or to allow the vacuum inside the gun to suck water in if its too loose.

As you know I am not really into night diving but if I was - I would be thinking of building a big swim float. Something like a big surf board with fixed lights under neath & I would carry a huge long hand spear. On my board I would wear a dry suit & carry a nice warm flask of alcohol, might take a GPS & a few mates as well! - Any one read "Hell Divers"?

Thats brilliant info eh! Wish all manufacturers produced such detailed plans. Its like the Haynes Manual for all their stuff!

Depends if you have a strong stomach for merciless killers? Yeah it was worth reading!

Foxy there was a programme a few weeks ago about fishermen in Sicily who do just that, but with long shallow punts ( no, punts!) with lanterns on them and barrels with glass bottoms they look through, over the side, and long hand spears. They were catching quite small fish and squid, not flatties though. Perhaps some of our Italian chums know about this?

p.s. is there a manual like that for the Mamba? ( I'm using one called OMD's Brain at the moment!)

I just sent them some pics once I'd had the suit for a while (nothing to do with the contact being rather alluringly called Marie-Francoise:inlove honest (just don't tell Sarah:blackeye)) and she asked if they could put them on their site. Was 6 months ago and I'd forgotten about it until browsing through last night.

Nice picture magpie :).

My new sweat suit arived today, how warm was I... :)
There must definately be a trick to getting the top part on - nearly suffocated in there :head

So, off to the local for a try out of the new suit... "There I was.." floating around like a floaty thing, not nearly enough weight, each dive was quite funny as I kept floating back up with my feet splashing out the water, etc. lots of splashing to keep the fishes far, far away.
A couple of pictures to summarise:
The plastic spear tip cover was still on when I shot the fish, I was surprised to see how it split - just as well I sharpened the spear this afternoon!
