Afraid so - a while ago and didn't get around to eating it so stuck it in the freezer. Still tasted good though.

Col I fell for that trap! I became really excited one day while in Checkers, the fish counter was full of Giltheads! Anyhow I asked fishmonger where they had come from, East of Sark he said, fantastic I said!
Lying git they were farmed! He quite often has them for sale & although quite pleasant to eat - they just ain't the real thing.

It does make me mad! I saw those little devils for sale "alive" in a supermarket about a year ago! I thought their movement throughout the UK was very restricted? Obviously we dont have native crays but they will still have an effect on our environment.
Col you should take up mushroom hunting - eating the unknown, living dangerously!

Ok so I was teasing - Checkers again! Interestingly, they also had live ones for sale - from the UK, I was told. It seems we are helping the environment by eating them though. No plague symptoms yet.

Who knows - perhaps we have got them over here in our reservoir or quarries?

I recognise those two little chaps!:t Movement isn't restricted as long as they're going to a place to be eaten, ie fishmongers and restaurants don't need a license. If I ever get across (which I keep meaning to do), I'll bring a few for you lot.

Benc, thanks for the offer but I am going to check with the authorities because we have very strict regulations regarding importing live fish.
I have imported fish before & you require a license & veterinary certificate.

Not sure they would be too impressed if one of the little blighters got into our waters, us having none already. They do a lot of damage do they not?

Not exactly sure what the laws are regarding import of crayfish into Guernsey, the law I was talking about applies to the UK, they never get chance to escape, double bagged in a net sack they don't get time before they get to the pot! The only way they would spread is by deliberate introduction.:rcard
