Did anyone see in the paper the other day the bloke who caught a record 8.5 lb gilthead bream off shore at Pembroke? slightly bigger than the BS record!:)

O dear! Sorry guys fire party will have to be rescheduled because I am already out that night :duh
I will try & post another date later.

The 8.5 was had east coast, suspect I know where. The one off pembroks was 7.2lb. Still nice fish though, just have to work out where they are and when!!

Don't believe every thing you read as regards where & what they were caught on!

SWI southwards revealed beautiful clear water . Trying to convince Ed to venture into deepest darkest St Martins for a disco dive, as he aptly coined it, tonight, but he thinks its a bit too far to travel. Now thats a Guern talking!

Was talking with Marco on the beach and have a 'sort of' plan to go Northish tonight depending on the wind, might try the bay where the women go.

Depends who you ask eh!! I know where one of them was had and a def bait for sure. i wouldn't beleive anything in len's column that's for sure. Too close to the specimen hunt to give details like that away!!

You're quite right Andy - I misread it. Still, interesting that such big giltheads are around in these areas. I see he also got a nearly 11 lb bass, plus a 6 pounder, at the East Coast spot ( allegedly!)

Andy did you go to the Baie des Femmes, and did you have any luck? I was thinking about around there today or tomorrow.

Went in solo last night. Beautiful evening, flat calm. Viz pretty good as well. In for 2 hours. lots of cuttles, lots of baitfish, pout scad etc. NO decent flatties though. Took home 2 red mullet:)

Must admit new gun seems sh1t hot, got them both head shots from above.

Have to take wife out in boat this afternoon so will sneak in a tank. Tides wrong for carteret this wekend so planning next weekend. Will try and get in tomorrow lunchtime - if allowed!!

Hi

I havent made a post in ages but havent been in much.:( decided to go in yester day afternoon at the place were the ladies go viz was great didnt see much at first but then stumbled across a 4-5lb bass just sitting on the bottom about 3 meteres down so dived down lined up a shot and befor i new it it was gone :waterwork after a little rant i carried on and came across a school of what i thought were bream, so i took a shot at one and it ended up on the end of my spear, then i realised that it was a trigger and i was surrounded by about 20 of them, i got the fish on my stringer and watch them for a bit, amazing fish they look really good in the water. hope to go in again to day with the good wether.

P.S If any one evere fancies taking a younger person out (me) and teaching him a few tips PM me:D

And and Me ventured into rainforest country for an illegal adventure dive, including terribly blatant flouting of traffic regulations, a marathon trek fully rigged up in diving gear, and the sore temptation to scare the crap out of some overnighting yachties.

Not 3 mins in and I'd missed a nice red mullet and Ed'd missed a nice bass and signs were good for a nice dive, Good viz (alebit hampered on my part by a misting mask and a missing contact lens).

Unfortunately it didn't quite work out like that with a few tempting red mullet left and many 2-3lbs bass also observed and not pierced.

Ed ended up with a 4lbs bass and a 2lbs sole, I took an average sole and that was that. We treked back up to the car, attempting to avoid the gorillas in the mist and the traffic wardens.

Good work crazyman, what size where the triggers? You're the second to see a shoal of them lately.

I was lucky enough to eat some gilthead for my tea - thats it now got to get some MORE

Crazyman, I went in yesterday on low tide around the same area - on the Amarreurs side by the rock with a pole. I only saw one decent size bass, heading out from the weed beds into open water at a rate of knots, no chance of lining up a shot. I think it was definitely a bass, although it looked more bream shape than the usual long mullety - type shape, if you know what I mean?

Looks a bit foggy this morning - hope it clears by low tide. Must get a waterproof compass!

Martin, so you didn't catch the gilthead then?:)

I have sheets of stainless steel if anyone needs any - I guess I have about three sheets about 3 foot by 5 foot. From an old bar/snack place / kitchen thing... let me know if anyone needs any...

Went in at various spots 6 times over the weekend:)

Didn't catch much (cuttles (really nice with tomato & basil sauce over pasta) a small plaice, a mullet and a couple of decent rockies ( to smoke)) but just really really nice being in the water.

Went in boat along south coast yesterday had great dive at Portelet (Petit Bot one) where I saw a huge bass who managed to swim around me just out of range:head Also fresh marks from a big ray (1m wingspan) in the sand.

Really interesting site. Reef breaking the surface and vertical straight down to the sand at 10m. The viz was really good and the sides of the reefs covered in weed and loads of rockies and pollack, almost looked tropical.:) :) :)

Andy

Ed - the sheets of stainless steel would have been extremely useful for my smoker which I have been building, except that on Saturday I went and bought a galvanised dustbin, which I have already cut holes in:head

Good find crazyman. Not sure about the choice of cover music though, personally I see spearing as something relaxing, not exactly The Prodigy!

Anyone know who it is? Airgun, Omer Gloves. He also has a vid of from a glider down the cliffs at Pleinmont on Utube.
