Guernsey 2007

Thread Status: Hello , There was no answer in this thread for more than 60 days.
It can take a long time to get an up-to-date response or contact with relevant users.
Now that is interesting, no idea but he (she) has braid not mono on the air gun, the gun looks camoed & the water looks shallow. Anyone else see any glues to his identity, could be a visitor of course.
Magger were is that kite vid?
PS don't air guns sound cool.

Good find crazyman. Not sure about the choice of cover music though, personally I see spearing as something relaxing, not exactly The Prodigy!

Anyone know who it is? Airgun, Omer Gloves. He also has a vid of from a glider down the cliffs at Pleinmont on Utube.

So was that " Stack my Fish Up?" :) Oh dear ... I feel a " Music to go Spearfishing by" thread coming on - how about " You Ain't Seen Nothing Yet" by Bachmann Turner ( following my recent experience:head )? Or " Octopus's Garden" by the Beatles?rofl

p.s. if you look closely, you can see the number on his red car!

Also attached is a pic of my latest ( non-spearing) assistant!

hmm, lives in Guernsey, likes pneumatics and backyard experimenting...could be you foxy?

Had a quick night dive with Tom down west and was pretty good. Quite a low low so thought we'd make the most of it and see if there were any fish on the sands. Calm and a large moon - clear sky and no wind, very pleasant.
Started to head out and immediately Tom found a cuttle... and another... and another... I only saw the one but it was enjoying a small wrassy snack.
Hit a sensible depth (no blasting off to the horizon...) and found a 'reasonable' red mullet (Tom has pictures but pulled a swift move by taking today off... so when he wakes up no doubt he'll post :) ).
Tom was waggling his torch at me a while later and went over to see him gesticulating wildly at a red mullet on the sea bed... eventually got the idea and went down to have a go myself, but missed also.
Got it in the end a few moments later :)
Anyway - I'll let Tom tell the rest as I am sure he has nothing better to do today and some of us have to work !
Dave just texted me with was it worth it ? Oh yeah ! But am a bit tired now :)
Bye

Well, just arisen having been in bed since getting back at 4.40am, I'm sure Ed is working hard...

Was a good dive, we ended up with a sole and two red mullet each. Were lots of just too small sole.

One of Ed's red mullet should have been mine however. Reading Ed's report you may think I'm just a generous soul, but I only got him to shoot it because I'd just missed! He did the same but we came upon it again 5mins later and he made no mistake this time.

Ed's other red was a bloney nice one too, 2.5lbs, and had some beautiful solid bars on it just before it got the bad news.

No ray seen, and surprisingly no bass until I was checked out by a little baby in the shallows on the way in.

One last thing, WAKE UP ED!

They say that there is a very fine line... going out at that time in the morning is getting close to that line rofl rofl

Well done for your dedication though.

Well done guys although I must say I am not over keen on eating red mullet!
Thing is they look great on a plate, leaching that red juice & contrasting red skin with white flesh - but- they taste like crap, like a fresh water fish?
Sole is much better but again not my favorite, if you fillet & fry the fish the flesh has a annoying habit of curling up into a ball! Really bugs me so I don't cook whole fillets. Sole makes beautiful "scampi" you know coated in a crispy coating & served with mayo & lemon juice.
Nice big tides, calm weather, clear water = no plaice!!
Now I like a small plaice :inlove As some of you know, I like entertaining my friends with food. However I would rather a plaice to any other fish at the moment.
It gives me particular pleasure to feed my guest with a fresh plaice dinner, especially at this time of year when bass has been the main course for most of the summer. I guess in the years to come there will be less of every fish but the flatfish shortage this year is - well - depressing!

I like red mullet, quite sweet tasting and find plaice a strong tasting fish. Never eaten sole proper. bass is scrummy. Mmmmmmm

Good work Maggers and Ed.

Must admit I've never eaten Red Mullet before, if they are anything like thick lipped mullet I aint gonna touch em - yuck! Bass is okay, but tastes very mullety to me and I aint fond of them, fashionable but no way is it right up there on my favourite fish. Mackies, now that's a tasty dish, especially if I cook it - if I do say so myself. Plaice is fan dabbie dosy bread crumbed and fried. Sole aint half bad either, Ive only ever eaten one of them, seems to have a delicate flavour if it's cooked to long.

All this talking of fish makes we wanna go out and spear some, might as well cause the rod's not seeing much action!

Foxfish - I cooked that gilty as per your guidelines, i could have cooked it a bit longer i think as it was a bit on the soggy side (i didnt cut the fillet in half) but still good eating. Will have do do another one to make my mind up if i like it or not (plus it gives me an excuse to go fishing).

Predator, we had gilthead last night, filleted, coated in seasoned flour and fried in Guernsey butter for about 5 mins. each side. Delicious! Don't write off mullet - see lots of other posts about cooking it, especially golden grey.:)

Love red mullet! Second only to bream in my view. Sole, bass and plaice are nice too. Anyone would think taste is an individual thing eh!

Love Red Mullet also. Have to cook it with the liver in. Have heard it called 'woodcock of the sea'

Should have official wedding photos this weekend in the meantime here are a couple others of the guard of honour. PM me if you want full resolution pics emailing

I did miss from there ! ... Each to their own when it comes to fish... red mullet taste very different to greys-different family maybe ? Just the same ish english name... looks like goatfish, taste like chicken :)

Went in at about 2:15am.... little less tired today :) Same again tonight Tom ?!

Interesting to see that the fish are still active at that time of night - wasn't sure if they'd only be active a few hours after sunset but looks like they are nocturnal party animals !

Ed
