It was Spearo Dave Thomasson and Dave O'Callaghan of the Exe. But it was Channel 4 Gordon’s TV fish catch was an effing fake - Times Online

In yesterday down Rocquaine way. Viz not so good. In 2.5 hrs saw 2 smll bass and a couple of big rockie sbut not much else!

Where have all the fish gone? Was holing to go in again today, but looking dwn the valley towards Lihou I can see a wintery looking squall coming in!!

Just given up myself at present. Vis had been improving but spring tides and a few days of force 5's with gusts to 6/7 has seen the water back to green with brown patches around every reef. East coast at the end of last week must have seen the vis in inches rather than feet. Confirmed by one of the commercial scallop divers that Friday vis was literally couldn't see your hand in front of your face. Like 90% of Guernsey scubbies I haven't done a single tank yet this year.

Longest day gone and half way through the year and there's hardly been a half dozen fishable days in those 6 months. At this rate even the August DB Guernsey summer fish-in looks a bust.

Hear New Zealand is a nice place to live. Wonder if they have any vacancies for FOM trophy manufacturers or nearly retired teachers?

I went in for a few hours yesterday, i thought that the vis was actually much much better than it has been, significantly better :) obviously a lucky spot...
saw plenty of fishies, mainly the usual wrasses and also a small bass at a distance - well camoflaged over the white sand.
The highlight of the swim was without a doubt the thousands of sandeels that turned up, shoaling all around me. swam with them for a good 10 minutes :)
I was in 'camera mode' mainly as i have just recently been educated on adjusting Tv/Av mode in the water (another thread!) so was hoping for some good sandeel 'shoal' piccies - need a seperate strobe/flash though i think, and clearer water...
anyway here's my offering:

Just back from a quick dive, and guess what? The viz was crap. 2m at the most also where I was there was a nasty swell. Saw no fish worth speaking of - its grim.

Water in the shallows was up to 18c!!

Think I'm going to join OMD and emigrate.

there were brown streaks accross cobo this morning, i guess as a result of yesterdays and last nights winds? looks calmer for the next few days, so hopefully it will improve again... hope so 'cos i want to get in tomorrow...

Just back from a dive this evening at Grande Rocques. Vis fishable in some areas, especially round the back of the first large rock out in the swell, but still only about 3m. Again nothing noteworthy seen, just mini pollack and rockies of a few ounces. A friend saw some mullet, but between four of us nobody saw a bass or a decent rockie.

Where are all the fish?!

Had a look over the edge of the pier at the Salary on the east coast at about 8.30 (half tide up) and the vis looked to be about 6 foot average within a range of between 4 and max 8 feet. Fishable if there is plenty of fish about but personally I'm not tempted by that. West might be clearer as some have said but with that swell and still 8 metre tides, perhaps not.

Good to see some of you keener and less grumpy spearo's getting in there but Bahamas might be a nicer place to live. Andy R. you could be my next door neighbour.

Mr X, you're right in most aspects. We're technically not in the EEC but some fallout is likely. We thought of the extra hour first but now we're waiting to see what Jersey do.

I remember this 'continental time' discussion going on in the States (Guernsey's government) when I was a nipper - 30 years ago!

I'm not going to hold me breath waiting for it to come about.

Personally, I like the idea. It's one thing I love about holidays in France - super long, late evenings.

Devon's not too bad either i might add. Plenty of fish around if you put in the time and effort. I'm off rod and line flattie bashing tommorow on the 'scarys' (skerries) fingers crossed for fish, we will only have to catch 2 flatties and we'll have doubled our flattie score from 2 recent trips over to Guernsey fishing the banks.

Just out of interest if any of you blokes fancy a bit of a steam in your boats and can dive to 30m+ theres plenty of cod out on the channel light :) (at least there was a few weeks back anyway)
