Took advantage of the good weather and went for a mooch round the Catioroc area this afternoon.

Viz was mostly ok, good in places, and pretty average in others.

And what did I see in 2 hours? Nothing. Not one fish of any interest. Biggest fishy thing seen was a few 1/2lbs rockies, and not many of them at that.

What's going on out there? :-(

And I was planning on fishing that way at least once this weekend. I'll save my time and bait then!!

In over the low this afternoon, nice and warm, clear and calm. Saw lots of big rockies and a shoal of 20+ Trigger fish. quite eerie, they sort of followed me, so I had to take some. Only took 4 though. The biggest went to 2lb 7oz so think I'll enter this in FOM.

Missed a plaice as well. I hesitated and it went ....aaargh when will I learn?

See if I can sneak in again tomorrow

Fantastic Andy. Well done. Never seen a shoal of triggers, only singles. Must have been great. Good eatin' them triggers but a bugger to fillet. Shall I enter you in the Hall of Fame as well? First visitor arrived yesterday in the shape of Birchy - we are going out in my boat this afternoon as I need back up fish for the week ahead!

Dave Have entered in Aug FOM and by all means put in HOF.

No I've never seen a shoal before, only singles. They just sort of appeared and seemed to grow in number, shallow water 2m and yes they DO bite, got a glove to repair!!

I saw a big shoal a few years back when they gathered in Grande Havre, quite ghostly they were, definately inquisitive coming to see what I was, but wary at the same time.

These were in about 6m though, interesting yours were in 2m. Around your usual haunt?

Ghostly thats a good description. They were in one of the little bays on the right as you follow the main reef out at the back of the Cup & Saucer.

The hundredth entry in the Hall of Fame was added today. If you haven't looked lately there are some great new catches.

The Fish of the Month UK is also doing well. Some diverse entries this month. Remember the winner is by popular vote so a novices catch or an unusual fish may well be a worthy entry and even a winner.

Have a check of the rules for HOF and FOM and bare in mind for when you make that special catch.

well done andy, sounds like you've got some good dinners there

this weather has been amazing! for the 3rd day in a row i've spent over 8 hours in the kayak (but no bass)! had 2 pollack and a massive gar - recon over a metre - is that possible!?

Saw my first sunfish this evening and a shoal of mullet with bass - offshore, which surprised me as i didnt think mullets went offshore?

will post some pics when i can move again....

the south coast is so spectacular!

Hi folks how you all been.
nice trigger i was convinced i saw a shole of about 6/7 a couple of weeks ago but a mate of mine sed i must of been wrong so asumed, so im well happy to see one cought as now i know as i allways did i was right :friday
Went for a dive on sunday is was a real low tide cought a nice 7 and a half pound bass saw nothing else but that was more then enough for me is was so heavy with my waight belt and new ankly waights i was sinking lol he was just feeding in the weed sat still so i silently hovered over him and well the rest is history. hears a few pics no news paper ones for fom tho dident have paper i dont mind tho i just like to sher the pics.

Vis is shot which is becoming par for the course as far as DB Guernsey fish-in http://forums.deeperblue.com/spearo-board/80646-holiday-guernsey-2009-a-13.html#post781334 is concerned.

Ear, ear, speak up as I'm still deaf in one. Two months culminating in the the "procedure" by the specialist and it's still not better. Looks like my season is sunk.

Hello everyone again.

First off, about the birds I asked about earlier: do aggressive birds tend to come alone or in groups? And how often does a bird go after a person's food? Is it common or rare but memorable?


And another subject. Fish oil. Are there any fish in your water that have a lot of oil in them or, more important, oil that can be easily accessed? I've read that dogfish have a lot of oil and that a lot is in the liver. I don't know if that means that the rest of the dogfish's body is relatively oil free or not. Or if the liver is the primary source of oil for most or all fish? (I do recall Cod Liver Oil, though)

Basically I'm thinking of mermaids using fish oil as a waterproofer for some of their organic artifacts. Would rubbing the liver of a dogfish over the objects be a good move for waterproofing? Would any other way of applying oil be just as good or better? Anyone with any idea how long fish oil would last on cloth, rope, wood?
