Yup, the forcast is looking pretty nice for the weekend!
I think i'm going to head out tomorrow lunchtime for a look around Boue Corneille - there's a spot of gravel with my name on it...
Last year i found that my boat-angling flattie catch rate was better after unsettled weather - lets hope that applies to spearo catching too...
Flatfish hate a ground swell - so calm settled weather is always best

saw lots of baby sole, a few just big enough sized but decided to leave them for their growing bigger sake... viz was good but just lacking in fish :/ Pete says he wont be posting for ages as leaving the island for a while on a biking trip...
Nice to meet you Jake and Saul - good luck in Alderney this summer - am sure you'll find plenty of monster bass lurking in the strong currents.
Yeah, last night was fun - I borrowed one of Tom's torches and went in with Pete/Jake/Saul. Alot of spider crabs in the weed, quite a few smallish pollock and some pout. I don't think any of us saw any red mullet but I guess it might be a little early for them yet.
Like Jake mentioned - plenty of small sole. I saw a 'size' sole with Saul but it didn't look like a massive feed so we looked at it for a bit then moved on. Pete saw a lobster but the lobster won and remains out there... somewhere...
Viz was good actually, I wasn't sure it would be after all this wind and my local bay has been a bit stirred up recently. Think I was a bit optimistic with the summer 3mm suit but lasted maybe an hour and twenty or however long we were in.
Good to meet new people and a good dive.

Good to hear the viz was ok, might have to get wet at the weekend.
3mm Ed? Optimistic. Not sure how much longer the batteries would have lasted mind you. Night diving takes a bit of effort at this time of year, I'd be falling asleep before it's properly dark!

There's me all excited about spearfishing in Alderney, got back yesterday, went during the day just to get used to the waters and where the rocks are etc, a few small bass but nothing worth shooting, got home and my dad went mental at me,
The law to have a speargun in Alderney is different than in Guernsey,
In Guernsey anyone can buy and use a speargun as long as they have a good reason for having one. and you dont need to get a licence for it.
Alderney law states you have to be over the age of 18 and have a licence for it, the speargun is on my dads licence, so if i am caught with it, then he can loose it, along with his licence and this other guns,
So no spearfishing for me this summer!!!!

Sorry to hear that SWT, but perhaps there is an upside; i expect you can still use a pole-spear or hand spear? and how about using a waterproof camera instead - i'm sure there would be plenty of peeps on here that would be interested to see some Alderney waters...
I've managed a good couple of days diving - yesterday was epic - 4 hours in beautiful calm sea with just a light breeze
saw a bass on my first dive, so things were set to be good, and didnt dissapoint - although i only brought home 1 bass at the end of the day. Oh and a nice lobster that a fisherman gave me in return for my doing him a favour!!! I'll have a video if the internet stays on long enough ever...Today i did a shore dive because i was on caddy duty over the low
but it was nice to go in without all the clobber and just shoot anything fishy wrasse dont count lol plenty for the bbq in a minute.anyone else in today?
Sounds good jonny, I am afraid to say I was out early morning in the boat again rather than diving but - fantastic day out there all the same!
We managed to catch far more than we needed including some big bass to 8.5lb, pollock to 7lb, 2 x black bream & 50 macs.
so...after a marathon filleting session "come teaching school" for a few friends we had a big fry up with tomatoes, fish, bread & butter. I managed to feed 14 folk with lots of gratitude & thanks all around a jolly good time was had.
(we have 54 folk around for a musical garden party tomorrow)
(PS Jonny - got blue dye & 7 mts of unidirectional carbon fibre in the post today)

rofllooks amazing!Managed a good 3 hours out today, tried again for flatties on the gravel, but still no joy!
Found a nice pollack, mullet and bass on the way in

Edit: For info, i dont really like the use of trot lines, but i think its better to retrieve a lost trot with fish on it, than leave it on the sea-bed.
