Nice one Jonny, thanks for the vid. Prefer trotts to nets, at least they don't just kill everything.

Just back from only my second dive of the year, after scallops this time. Tried some slightly different ground but only got 4. Viz was ok, not great, but there was a fair bit of weed on the bottom which could well have hidden plenty that I just swam over.

In this evening for a while, just a shore dive, practicing being a little more silent! always good to focus on improving...
saw a few small bass, mullet and a mackerel, and the usual rockies and baitfish + sandeels.
I think a change of target might be on the cards, east coast doyle area perhaps.. Anyone dived it? I read dereks log that you posted Mart, he must have found some flatties there.

I guess it depend on how deep you are prepared to dive, lots of gravel bars & small sand banks around the coast but most would need a boat to get you there.
Of course secrete marks are not really around anymore as virtually every fish holding areas is fished, netted or long lined. There are just so many small boats with high tech equipment nowadays!
Derek only fished the Port Grat area for the last twenty years of his diving years, he did fish over spots occasionly but dedicated himself to knowing Port Grat like the back of his hand.

Hey Fox, was that pic from the weekend? what was the boat called? reminds me of pics from when they used to do the powerboat racing when one of them got really stuck.

It's a French boat, 40 footer I think the paper said, he went to get in the QE2, the red light was on so he turned round to go back out and somehow ended up on the rock. We all had a good gawp from the office!!

Trying hard for FOM, but although seen a few specimens, still nothing special landed. Couple of us are still thinking of trying to come over and dive your waters again, is there a Guernsey Fish in this year? if so, will u allow visitors from Jersey?

In last night for a full mix of delights! zillions of flatties - one every few yards, all small tho.
also a lobster which i didnt keep as it was a bit small. saw a topknot - which was a useful sighting as it confirmed [in my little mind] that the last one i saw in the winter was a lemon sole.
also saw a rockling which is the first one i have seen!

As i went in at a spot that was recommended by a chap who puts his nets out there, i decided to take my float and a light stick!
