We have just come back home from a great night at St James, we saw GU10 & the Barley Dogs.
Fantastic talent we have in Guernsey - that cost £20 to see & hear the most accurate harmonies & some amazing banjo, double bass, fiddle & guitar playing + a really good buffet!! (jonny where were you)

Sound like fun mart, I help run a youth club on a Friday night tho.
The water is purdy clear at the mo, nice dive yesterday. My cliff runs have been doing me good as I managed a fairly comfy 1:45 dive. Loads and loads of wrasse seen, no basses tho.
I used to see those marks and thought it must be fish after worms or crabs in the sand. I thought this for years but also wondered why the tide dropping wouldnt have just washed any marks away. I was chatting with a very experienced Bass angler and mentioned it and he said he used to think the same until he watched a seagull stamping its feet and bringing worms to the surface. I had seen seagulls doing this but never looked at the marks they made, so the next time I saw one doing it I went over and sure enough there were the exact same marks.
Last minute decision to go for a dive tonight, seeing the weather on the way.
Didn't start well, main torch deciding not to work after 5 mins. It being one of my homemade jobs this was no massive surprise so I had a spare tuck in the belt.
After an hour and not one single sizeable fish seen in what was reasonable but not crystal viz, I was starting to think I should have stayed in front of the fire.
Then I came across a tub gurnard, but decided to let it go unmolested (ie. missed it!), but soon stumbled into a red mullet that came with me, and then another.
Two medium sized sole later the batteries were going on the backup so headed in. DEFINITELY colder out of the water than in at the moment!
Back home diagnosed the torch problem to a battery falling out of holder issue, easily solved with an elastic band in future.

It was nice in last night, the water is still warm, but a tad chilly when getting out! I nearly fell asleep at one point, it was so calm and peaceful. But I kept hearing 'captain catch and release' firing his gun, to bring me back to what was going on. Needless to say I had a very fishless dive, whereas captain CnR faired quite a bit better.

Haven't quite given up on day light dives, so trying an early one 2mos. Doubt there will be much around but as always, u never know. Night diving gear is ready, and may venture out for this years first night dive this weekend. If i can resist the red wine, may get to see some sole!

Jonny, I'm lost, who is the mystery man of catch and release?
Anyway, not been in for months, then twice in two days, this time with Ed.
Set off into the darkness and 10 minutes in something familiar happened. My torch conked out! Not the same torch as last night but another homemade job, and this time it's proper futu, which is good news as I get to rebuild it with better leds
Onto the backup torch and soon found myself hanging over a rug of a sole, which came home with me.
A few small blondes and a cuttle later and I spot another sole, smaller but takeable, then notice a plaice of about the same size not 2 feet away. Whilst deciding which to go for I unhook the bands in preparation to stab when I look back down and see a 3lbs bass swim right between them! Not had many bass this year so the bands get pulled again and it gets the bad news. A lucky night for those two flatties!
Ed then gets a nice Red Mullet, and I find a black bream before the batteries on both lights start to run dry so we head back in.
Another nice dive in reasonable but not sparkling viz, which looking at the forecast maybe the last we see of that for a while!
Back home the Sole weighs in at 3lbs 12oz. Looks a broader fish than the 4lber I had earlier in the year but it's thinner.

Not sure about Guernsey but the Autumn (Fall) certainly seems a good time to hunt big bass on the Dorset coast as you can see from very recent catches from these guys;

Unfortunately the Bass which frequent the UK / CI waters are targeted in early Winter (January/February) by commercial fishermen when they aggregate in huge numbers to spawn, Guernsey being one place where this happens.
