Where did you stay jonny? I would consider Sark as one of the most enjoyable stays in the World!!

Aval du creux & Stocks are premiere hotels - for me Sark is a step back in time, a beautiful place without cars, a place of starry nights, owls , bats & amazing insects that haven't been gassed & poisoned with chemicals!
Breathtaking cliff tops walks & exciting sea cave excursions - a place of organic food & huge lobster suppers.....I love SARK :thankyou

In my mind FF = Sark & Sark = FF.

If I won the lottery I'd buy you a house there mate as I know how much of a connection you have with all its aspects.

I was there Tuesday till Thursday last week at Stocks. I knew I'd enjoy it but I didn't know what my wife would think. Luckily she loved it and wants to go back.

Unfortunately, my work takes me to Sark regularly, sometimes for several days.

Life can be a bitch.

went up north yesterday to find some shelter from the sw wind, got in an hour before low with my 75, saw loads of fish with very mixed viz, on average 2-5m. Saw a dozen or so good sized bass, missed an absoloute unit of a bass, then floating back through the string weed saw a big tail, so i sank to the bottom and waited. After about 30 seconds on the bottom i started fiddling with my rubbers, at which point a large head poked throug the string weed. Boom. 6lb instant bass kebab

Hi,

Had a fantastic dive today. Despite 10foot swell, force 7 onshore wind and nil vis, I was on the bottom in 100feet, for 10minutes, when I a 20lb bass impaled itself .... and then I woke up!

I just hate it when that happens! Unfortunately, Autumn storms are here already and the weather looks set for the forseeable, so looks like I will have to get on with the long list of outstanding DIY tasks!

I suspect even Guernseys waters will be unfishable . We will all be chomping at the bit until the weather improves.

I am currently looking at booking a short romantic holiday in the med.Turkey seems a good option and sea looks lovely. Even without a gun.

Spoke to Neil at Apnea dive shop today. Good news is that he is keen to support next years Guernsey "Fish in", and also, some more Jersey spearos are really keen to come along. Personally I can't wait. This years mini fish in was the best weekend I have had in ages (don't tell the wife).,

Had a look at FOM, Jonnys plaice is running away with it and I cant say I am at all surprised, cracking specimen!

Fingers crossed that weather breaks and we get a few more dives.

Though Jonny, if there are any pictures of videos of Sark that you posted online for public viewing, I'd love to see them.


I'm on one of our islands form my part of the world. Well, within a few thousand miles of my part of the world. I'm on Martha's Vineyard, Massachusetts for a family wedding that just finished up. Another beautiful place of the world. There are so many.

Likely stupid mainlander questions, but I'd feel more stupid not asking:

1. Is there anything I shouldn't be taking? I'm currently going for anything a foot or bigger
2. I'm currently going off L'Eree without a float/marker, I keep a good eye for boats / am generally the shore side of the moored boats so seems little risk, or am I an accident waiting to happen?
3. Same question but suppose I go over to Cobo where I know a lot of you fish. Without a float/marker, am I in much danger from boats ... or perhaps other spearos?
4. High tide good, low tide bad right?

The are minimum size limits for each type of fish, so perhaps take a look at that for what you are after.
Ref the float, I think it depends on your confidence to some extent, they are a pain amongst the weed, and some people don't use them, personally Ive had enough 'close' encounters to always use the float. But maybe it depends where you go too. I also like to take a bag on my float.
Jersey mike has a story for you regarding the dangers of other spearos, I think he puts his stringer on his float now...
State of tide for spearing, that's a good question! Personally I prefer low simply because the reefs form a barrier to the tide and to any waves/swell. My choice would be an hour before to half way up. I suspect others will have their own preferences tho...

Had to work the weekend of the Jersey meet-up so missed that, but managed to get out a few times in the past couple of weeks, making my way around the coastline trying to find nice spots. Went to Mick's fishing supplies and got myself a gun so on days I don't feel like going for depth I can try to get some dinner. ("try" in the "try and fail" sense)

Currently I think my practical issue is being too slow at spotting the fish, they see me before I see them, gone before I even point the gun at them, just a need practice and familiarity I guess.

Had the same issue in Asia with turtles (not shooting them of course), couldn't find them, then you see a few and your eye gets used to them and suddenly you see them everywhere.

So just practicing and hoping not to get mown down by a boat (not yet) or speared by anyone (not yet) or dragged away by the current (a few times!) in the meantime Just wearing the top half of the wetsuit at the moment so hopefully can dive through winter with the bottoms.

I went in this afternoon, over the high lol. Very bassy but vis was terrible and the tide was running, vis down to 3m best. I saw one big daddy bass but had to bring the gun round for the shot and knocked against a rock in the process doh!. Goodbye mr fish!
Managed a nice 3lb er for the fridge
Hoping for a trip out tomorrow before the wind comes in...

Beardy and i went in today over the low; we had some fun with the video camera, taking turns on the gun...
Thanks to Beardy for some good footage and an enjoyable, although i suspect not very stealthy, dive!

Nice one chaps, I thought that might be Jonny I saw whilst sat there in the car park eating my lunch. Wondered what the viz would be like as I saw you boys going out, and now I know, pretty bad, which is not unexpected given the wind. And there's plenty more on the way too. Hope we get some settled weather soon, it's night dive season!

Yeah I feel as rough as it is possible to feel thanks Col, Sarah never moved away from the champagne but I made the most of every thing on offer!!
