Hi
I am new to spearfishing i have done some snorkeling around Guernsey but not a lot i was wondering what else i need. I have a snorkel, mask, fins, wet suit and spear gun.
I have heard a weight belt is a near necesity and was wondering where to get one and rough price and if there was anything else i needed.

Hi Matt,
sounds like you have most of what you need to get going. do you have a stringer to put your fish on? This can be attached to you belt, or maybe you will use a float? which is my strong recommendation if youre anywhere that a boat might go.
you only really need a weight belt if you dive.
do you have a knife?
omer rubber weight belt is good imo. make sure you get a rubber belt so it can stretch on. You may want to look at a weight vest/jacket which helps to spread the weight off your back. Also for the future - ankle weights, which i find useful when doing shallow dives.

I have heard of several commercially caught Gilthead bream being caught on the East Coast, big ones too!
I am going to have a go for them tomorrow from my boat, it should take me about 30 seconds at 20 knots to get there from my mooring!

Well there was a change of plan, no boat fishing but ...
I did something pretty unusual for me this morning, I went shore fishing!
Yep, up at 5am to meet up with my mate who had assured me it would be worth the effort.
It was for him!!
We arrived at the venue & set up in the rain, cast out & within 5mins my mate was in to a big strong fish.
The fish was really powerful but to be honest he bullied it in to the net in about 5 mins - so after only 10 mins of casting out our baits the fish was in the bag & my mate was beaming from ear to ear repeating "I told you they would be here"
To cut out the next one & a half hours makes sense because nothing else happened apart from getting wet!
Anyhow what is in the box?
