Guernsey 2012

It can take a long time to get an up-to-date response or contact with relevant users.
Thank you bobdonny & jks. Or, put another way: Cheers. :friday

According to the first YouTube page to come up on a search of basking sharks and Guernsey: "In Guernsey, we have hardly any sharks, if we do, its most likely to be a basking shark, and they are huge." [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i2n669llJ6c]Fishing Guernsey - YouTube[/ame] The first statement fits my previous research. How often would you saw basking sharks come your way?

i have not seen one for about 10-11 years now, we used to see them 4 or 5 times a year. I do see sharks every year though or least every other year, some years we see quite a few unidentifiable fins in the distance but, porbeagles are the most common shark nowadays.
We saw a pod of really small porpoise a few weeks ago, they only looked about 4 foot long!

Don't believe everything you read or hear on the internet! There are plenty of sharks in our waters that are far more frequent than Basking Sharks.

Blues and porbeagles are the most common, with threshers and makos not unknown.

I'm about to watch Man of Aran now. Thank you, all.

I'm afraid, Foxfish, that I won't be able to watch your video. As when I click on it, I see this:

Oh, well.

And, Magpie, although I agree you warning about trusting the internet is warranted, I was also basing this on books by Sue Daly. I guess she only listed fish that constantly or at least *regularly* appeared in your waters. Thankfully, though I am trying to make Tane be based on your Channel Islands, they are still fictional. If you have sharks -- or dolphins or seals -- that show up occasionally at Guernsey or Sark, I can feel free to have them be especially fond of certain bays of Aros, never reaching Tane or the Galiat Strait. That being said, I do appreciate all the facts you give me. I can play with reality, but not ignore it. I am striving for realism, even in a fictional world.

Since we're sharing YouTube clips. . . :D

I don't know if it was meant to be a comedy but I couldn't stop laughing through both episodes. I do have 2 questions:

1) How much are you being paid by the Sark Tourist Board?

2) How many funny looks did you get whilst narrating?

Roll on episode 3!

I'm extremely disappointed. I expected foxfish to have an incredibly deep voice with a slightly French 'twang'.

Reading his posts will never be the same again. Experience ruined.

Hi Martyn, yet to check out ur video, but had a quick look at that SMG!............... Holy cow!
