hi all
well i havent been on hear for a long long time but as im sat at my computer i thought id have a look at the db forum and see whats being caght.
iv bin in a fare bit this year and have caght the bug again and seem too be doing quite well too, lets just hope this weathere stays for a while and the viz.
went in yesterday seems to be a fare bit around at the mo manneged to take home a nice red gurnard home which iv never seen whilst speering befor, missed a nice bass but seem to be a lot of small fish around at the mo which is promissing for the future.
i need a new suit any suggestions as to were to buy one from allso what to get i have a 2 pice at the mo but its 7 mm thick and rubber (smooth cell?) on the in side and i fined it a night mare to get on even with shampoo and im often worn out buy the time im in it :-D i cant remember my logick in buying 7mm but never again so 3mm or 5mm and somthing easy to get in any suggestions would be great

I went in this afternoon behind the cup and saucer. Water was too low for bassing so went out over the sand and saw a couple of small (too small) plaice as well as lots of small dovers which were moving in on the rising tide. Managed a couple of dozen razor clams. It was a beautiful afternoon really warm and still (to still?)

I hadn't even considered going there, thanks Fox we'll give that a bash. The cons of just getting into it :t
Martyn, none of us Jersey guys have dived your west coast before, so to give us a slim chance, and for the benefit of others who have never dived the venues, could you issue a general pointer to all divers as to the best places/times to go for the various species. cheers mike
Obviously I cant explain away 40 years of diving the west coast in any detail, or I might as well write a book!
I think I have chosen the two best spots for the specimen hunt but we do have much better flatfish areas.
Vazon bay is our largest expanse of sand & that is where most turbot are speared, unfortunately it is also the most popular water sports bay & hardly anyone fishes there anymore.
I will have a chat with you on Thursday & we can decide where you guys can go on Friday to fit in with the weather.
The Knife area is the most popular bay for spearos, it has sand, gravel, tide & reef, with a lovely strech of shallow sand amongst the boat moorings on one side (of the knife) & a weedy stretch of rippled sand along the tide edge on the other side.
On occasions you can see 10 or more speros in the area.

looking fwd to having a go at my first underwater lobbie , and a brown crab should be a challenge too. Do they live under rocks too?
