Nope never found a decent chancre under a stone, they like holes although you can find quite big ones in the sand around fishing boat moorings.
The fishermen sometimes throw over soft shell crabs & I guesse they stay around?
It used to be far more exciting hunting in the holes but I hardy ever see conger nowadays!
All the bays have lobster & crab, I caught two nice chancre right on the end of the knife a few years back, unusually they were both in the same hole!

A friend and I went in yesterday at Grande Rocque. Two others were in the same area.
Vis was just about fishable with a deceptive swell running in deeper water. From the car park it looked flat as there was no chop at all but when we got further out it was moving about a bit which was good. I dont tend to see as many bass when it is really calm. A friend got a good 6.5lb bass and saw a couple others. I saw 2 bass whilst lying aspetto but they never really got into range and I didn't let a shot off all dive.
Was in for 2h or so. Water very warm, shame about the vis. Anyone know if any of the other coastlines are clearer at the moment? Keen to go in today also.

Got over from Bristol yesterday afternoon, said helo to the family and within minutes buggered off down the west coast with the intention of extracting a lobbie or 2 for the barbie.
Got in at about 2h before low (tide seemed to go down further than i expected, high pressure?) and was all set on hunting lobsters when I found myself engulfed in the biggest school of rosslet i've ever seen. I've never seen bass in any numbers at lowtide where I was fishing (sorry but good lobbie spots are sacred) but strangely they were everywhere, saw maybe 2 0r 300 1-2lb bas in about 10 minutes, cruising through string weed and smashing the unsuspecting bait fish. I managed to fight the impulse to spear anything for a while, until I saw a large fish about 5 m to my left cruising my way.
I sat on the bottom and pointed my gun to where i thought the bass would appear. About a minute passed and still no bass, i was starting to gag and about to surface when a head popped up about a foot away from my spear tip. Took that as a sign. boom 4-5lb bass on the stringer
Finished the dive with a decent bass and 3 lobbies in the bag. Glad to be back in guernsey.

Glad to be back in guernsey.I've been over since the weekend, popped in a few times with just a rash vest and shorts, but haven't seen much of any size. Hoping to get in with Portinfer this week for a night dive, and maybe a proper mission with my stepson in the day . Any recommendations? He's a natural, but I don't want to take him anywhere with currents.
Hello all! I'm as Sussex spearo, currently in Cherbourg and hoping to sail over to St Peter Port, leaving in a few hours. Obviously don't want anyone to share their sacred spots, but are there in general any spearing options not too far from the marina?

If you want walking distance you're probably best off going south to Havelet Bay and the bathing pools and round the cows horn into Soldiers Bay, all just south of Castle Cornet which overlooks the harbour. Plenty of mullet and a good chance of a bass. Possible plaice on the sand.
Bellegreve just north of the harbour is only a little bit further away but decent ground as well, better bass area and loads of mullet.
Keep an eye out for boats in both areas but shouldn't be too much of a drama.

Good dive with Adam last night - little windy but found a little sheltered strip. Saw quite a few sole, a baby bass, a red mullet, some pouting, pollock, a medium sized bass, spider crabs in the weed. Pretty nice dive and thanks to Adam for coming - good to catch up mate. Oh, nice of the police to pop along at the end to record our dive for posterity ... alot of questions but once we'd explained we weren't working for Pablo Escobar they let us go.

Good evening guys, first of all thank you foxfish for the recommendation Of DB. my questions are as follows. I went snorkaling this weekend and tried to go underwater for a bit...i can only hold my breath for 20 seconds, is there anything i can do to help my time, also which fins should i get to start out. Last question, will the 'waterproof' camera bags (for canon 550d) actually hold there own? They look like clear plastic bags??
