I must say foxy nice gun!!! Hat of to you . Have you been in yet with it, any luck? hows it fire whats the balance/ bouyancy like? Im looking at a new gun but which way do I go? looking at a cresssi 75 Im waiting to get hold of brosiedons AIR1 but it nearly took his head off so may have to wait to see it in the flesh!.ooops didnt mean that Mike !!!!!.Are reels any quicker when relaoding than strung guns or do i need more practice !Im Thinking of putting one on cressi 50 whats the pro n cons? Think people are all out on hols 1st week of school hols n all might pick up later.

hi guys, back from my hols and after a month of being 'dry' i need some salt water!!!

dont touch the bag type camera housings except for very limited surface / splash proofing. just my opinion after trying a bag before forking out...
Mart the gun looks superb! i hope you will be fishin with it? Den, knowing mart, the balance will be perfect and the set-up will be spot on!
Denian imo the reel gives a benefit when diving deeper than the length of wraps you have, + depends on how you fish.. if you have the gun on a float-line then no need, but if diving off e.g. a kayak then a reel is likely essential if you have a personal tether to the yak.
imo the reel does not slow you down enough to matter [maybe you get more shots off than me tho
] dont forget you still need wraps to match your shooting range.
I plan to dive each day this week so if anyone is around and wanting to dive then let me know... Duncan when are you arriving?

Reels are good for deep dives, big fish & tropical seas - not much use on a small gun in relatively shallow water.
Even a basic 75 will catch you your tea, I build and sell guns, they are not always practical just cool (I hope) for the owner!
Personally I think the underwater manoeuvrability & balance is the most important aspect followed by ease of loading & consistent shot without tangles.
Get all those things right & you have a good gun.
I have balanced the gun for a short thin spear & twin 16mm bands, it has an enclosed track & is quite heavy out of the water but perfectly balanced1
I have not fired it however - perhaps someone will try it out next weekend...

Um a wise man tells no tales!. Thanks for your thoughts .A reel would be bulky and effect the handling of gun and snag a bit .I've not held a reel I presume you would turn a knob to reload the line just like a mutiplyer fishing reel.taking time .I think time in the blue will suffice.I'm much improved over the last few months.
Hi Foxfish ,that gun does look a bit special !! what is it made from ? (looks like carbon fibre ) what length is it ? what is the purpose of the flared sections ?I thought I ought to put a gun together for the fish in....
It is a teak laminate construction with a rabitech trigger & derlin enclosed track, 100cm long with a 125cm x 6.5mm spear.
The whole gun was epoxy coated & spray painted with 9 coats of paint, it has a nice depth & colour using browns reds & blacks.
The shape is just how it evolved but is based on looking nice to my eyes really.
It was a pain to balance due to the light spear & high mass but, I got it close by guesse work & added lead underneath the handle plates & at the muzzle (you can see a little block of lead in the pics)
I have also buried some lead in the muzzle wings, the wings reduce recoil & in line the bands.
I could not resist a big of carbon but it is just cosmetic...

I have noticed that the "fish in" is coming up. I have seen bits and pieces about it when I have logged on but I don't know any specifics.
Can someone do a short cliffsnotes or link me to the page where the itinerary is? A bit of competitive spearfishing sounds like it could be good fun and I am interested (maybe able to rope in a couple others too).

were they immobile and a bit smelly? Good to hear vis os OK at mo, where did u get in?
Rico, there are plenty of rigid camera cases available but you own a pretty big camera & it might not be the best sort to use while diving however there are waterproof cases available for virtually ever popular make of camera.
I have a casio 10mp compact with a rigid case that you can borrow or try out to see how you get on before splashing out on a case for yours.

Foxfish, that would be brilliant! do you know how similar underwater shots are to
on land? I took photography at college but never took an underwater picture while there... I would lover to try spearfishing too but ill get used to the water/my kit first.
