Hello I was wandering where I could go to target flatfish from the shore in pretty shallow water if possible ? I'm looking to target any species of flattie any advice would be apprisiated

If you want walking distance you're probably best off going south to Havelet Bay and the bathing pools and round the cows horn into Soldiers Bay, all just south of Castle Cornet which overlooks the harbour. Plenty of mullet and a good chance of a bass. Possible plaice on the sand.

Bellegreve just north of the harbour is only a little bit further away but decent ground as well, better bass area and loads of mullet.

Keep an eye out for boats in both areas but shouldn't be too much of a drama.

Many thanks for the tips. Unfortunately my mate who I was sailing with isn't a fan of actually getting into the water (I blame it on Jaws), but I managed to get a quick dive in Soldiers Bay when we anchored there. I found a lovely fishy spot, bagging a nice pollack and mullet before a speargun malfunction...

The next afternoon we moored up off Sark. A stunning location, amazing viz over rocks and kelp beds and more big mullet than I've ever seen in one place. I really loved Guernsey and Sark - it's a gorgeous environment that you have to hand. I'll definitely be back. I hope the fish-in is going well!

Well done on the mullet - dont forget spearfishing in Sark is not allowed!

Any sandy bay at low tide - vazon, cobo, Grandes Rocques, Port soif, Portinfer, Port Grat, Rousse, Ladies bay, Pembroke, L'ancresse Fonternelle etc etc etc...... Amongst the boat mooring in Grand Harve is good.
You need nice calm conditions with no swell, flatfish hate movement on the bottom as they cant hide very well so they move out into deeper water to avoid being uncovered by any swell.

ok Ricko, i will keep you in mind. it always worries me when i see spearos without floats out in bays with boats around and as i just won a few quids in the fish-in, i thought i would use a bit of that to fund a couple of basic floats.

The weather looks amazing at the moment, vis looks good. And i STILL have the lurgi!

What increasable weather! two days of flat sea - found a few fish on my boat deck yesterday & today, looks like turbot for tea, brill for lunch & turbot for tomorrows tea too.

Nice one Martyn, I have had a good day today too. Caught my first Gilt head! yahooooooo! Not massive, at just under 2.5lb but I feel chuffed to bits. Will post pics when I finish my beer or three.

My first ever Gilt head bream!

Went for a short shore dive on south west coast and caught my first GILTHEAD BREAM! Not a massive fish, at just under 2.5lbs, but a rarity for Jersey. Several seen in about 8m, a long breathold resulted in a single Gilty coming in again, a long distance shot just caught the fish as it was turning away. Lucky
