My first ever Gilt head bream!

Went for a short shore dive on south west coast and caught my first GILTHEAD BREAM! Not a massive fish, at just under 2.5lbs, but a rarity for Jersey. Several seen in about 8m, a long breathold resulted in a single Gilty coming in again, a long distance shot just caught the fish as it was turning away. Lucky

Me and Cobus went for an early swim today ,a 6.30 start. A few bass seen, Cobus missed a lunker and is still dreaming about what could have been. I had a mixed bag of a small, bass, a half decent mullet (3lb 130z)and three sole, one really nice thick one, at 3lb 8oz! Water was gin, well worth getting up.

I went in for an hour this morning, I thought I would look for a flatfish over the low.
I did find one small plaice but just not quite big enough to take however, I did spear a Tub gurnard....

Yeah superb eating mate, I got him in the same place that I had a much bigger one a few years back....easy casting for the speccie hunt too!!

What is the best state of tide/time of the day for seeing a flattie?

Low tide, flat clam, no ground swell, in the day time there tend to be buried & at night they are often exposed and very visible!

So obviously a torch light will not scare them off? Any advice on going for a first night swim?

Yes go with someone else, use a mini chemical light taped to your snorkel, use a good bright torch, ideally have someone waiting - watching from the shore if you do go alone.
Go somewhere easy like Pembroke, stay in the shallows, go in one hour after dark.
I will be doing a few night dives but not until next month when it is dark a little earlier.

Ref the night dive, i suggest waiting until september/october for the earlier nights, but otherwise wot the fox said oh and the camera is the way to go at night!

I still have 1 spare new float if anyone wants it? Landsi/James are you still interested? anyone else otherwise? Part of my 'Be safe be seen' campaign!!

Mart i recon i could easily spend a few hundred dollars in that shop!! lots of good gear.

Nice site ! Where do you start? Why can't there be a local shop like that?. where you can go in and look n feel shiny stuff!Buy lots of bits and go home and build some thing crazy!Just going back for another look!
