Hi jonny.

It went very well in terms of learning curves, i bought a weight belt and am now working out which weights to use etc. Oh and i saw a bass (or so i thought) in the base of the long weed. i do still need to get washing line for the float though (i did still use it) and i have ordered a wrist compass for night dives on your advice. thanks for that advice fox, if you fancy a student on your night dive give me a shout..i believe the camera will be returned by the time the nights close in on us. Does anyone use a tried and tested torch? P.s. nice campaign glad to be a part of it ;-)

Sad time for us in Jersey as one of our diving mates,Alain Lenaghan, died last weekend. He will be sadly missed and we are all feeling pretty low. Despite lacking motivation, a couple of us have been in. I have been looking for more species for the specimen hunt, haven't yet found a big enough turbot yet, but I found a nice trigger fish (actually found a few but only took one). They are very good eating fish.

Could anyone tell me if surface hunting works over here in the summer as I started spearfishing about a month ago and have put a vast amount of hours in and had no success what so ever. My breath hold under water is about 30 seconds but I think this is due to me being closrofobic. On dry land I can hold my breath for 1 min 23 seconds.

mac your breathhold in water is typical of beginners. work at it.
when you get some fins you will be able to slow down and put less effort in. then you can start to relax... and it will all improve...

One of the few places left that have genuine string weed but otherwise quite a barren area around Grande Rocques...

Hi all,

Anyone been shore fishing recently? Decent tides for it over the next few days after work (~21.30 tonight)
I havent been shore fishing in ages so I might just start of slow fishing from the car by the l'ancresse/pembroke slips/carparks or similar. Anyway, if anyone knows any better, easy Northern spots let me know.

Hi phin, welcome to the forum.
You can find out huge amounts of information by back reading the Guernsey thread, we don't like to give out specific spots & info on the forum!
However you can find flatfish at low tide in virtually every sandy bay on the island & bass like to hang out in the string weed...

Thank's everyone for positive comments. I just like playing with amateur movie editing - obviously no more than spearfishing .

As everyone I've got some favourite spots, but still discovering beauty of Guernsey. So there is another movie from Sunday 19th Aug at Saints Bay. Unfortunately sea was so murky as air foggy :hmm. Visibility (for me 2-3 m) so I swam to shallows and saw there few mullets (about 2:23 on movie) and had one for dinner. Anyway was good

That video is awesome! Another new guy! I don't feel so alone anymore!

Just got out of the water, vis was ok(ish) although I saw diddly squat, and was in the water for over 2 hours. Used the float Jonny, went and picked up some line straight after and it worked perfectly. So bloody useful. Thanks alot!

Just got out of the water, vis was ok(ish) although I saw diddly squat, and was in the water for over 2 hours.

Go in over the low water on a smallish tide & float about in the weed beds ... looks like we have wind coming this weekend but it was nice today & looks fantastic tomorrow with very low winds.
Low water is 17.20 @ 2.1mt so just about as good as it gets!
Try out the west coast if possible around Lihou in the bays where there is little tide.....

I shot a nice 4lb bass today, just in front of my house too!
