You would be better off coming on the ferry, guys have bought thier guns on the plane before but it is a lot of hassle & expense.
I have plenty of guns & spare wieght belts...
We will be holding the annual Guernsey fish in next year but you are welcome anytime, ask Yeti or Octopus from your Welsh thread for more info as they were both here a few weeks back...

I looked at flying with my gun but BMI advised it would be put on standby and may, or may not, arrive at the same time as me. It also was meant to go in a lockable case.
In the end it was easier to borrow one from Foxfish
It will be the ferry next time for sure

Hi,

Im after a little info please. I'm trying to plan a spearing trip to somewhere warmer. I was wondering how you all get your kit to Guernsey. I'm hoping to fly as I dont fancy the drive. Do the airline (auringy I was thinking) have any issues with you taking spearguns and knifes.

When i have been on spearo type holidays, i have just left the gun and taken a camera instead; maybe that could be an option for you? you can often buy weights at dive shops - depending on where you go...

Foxfish thats really kind of you. I'l do some more research before I book anything.

My camera has broken so the gun is a must.

I found this on auringys website, also Ive just got of the phone with them, the girl didnt really know and ask me to call customer servies on Monday.

I'd have to say its both fishing equipment and a sporting weapon, I would be templted to just turn up an argue the toss that is fishing equipment and have it in its lockable case just in case. Tbh it lives in its lockable case anyway. albeit home made.

What do you think? fishing equipment/weapon/both?

We have seen lots of sunfish in the past few weeks, saw this little one today but really quite close to the shore..

mac you will find the fish in the bays and until you have got comfortable with your fins [have you got some yet?] then i think best to keep away from the tide. my suggestion would be any of the bays at low to half tide in close to the shore for mullet. the most important thing is to work on trying to be nice and quiet. If you use your time with J to work on breathhold and bottom time/relax, then you will be better set for next season...

Yes mate I've got fins and had them for a while , we have tried in the bay at Bordeaux a while ago around the boats there and saw a few mullet and one bass on the left hand side near the rocks he was on my right hand side I don't know how long he was there for I only noticed when I took a glance to the right and he was just stareing at me and as soon as our eyes met he shot off , but yes I am decently going to try there again , today I think we are going to havelet so I will let you know how we get on many thanks mac

i managed 5 hours in/out of the water from my kayak yesterday. Launched from Havelet and paddled round the SE coast. Managed 15 scallops, but put the smaller 5 back. also found some smallies left for another year...
by half tide up i was seeing more fish - a nice size plaice over some gravel and a small gilty and a bass, plus the usual pollack, mullet, etc. all left and none filmed!!!
dives were all around the 10m mark and i was pleased to be getting 1m20s once i was settled

Was thinking of going for some scallops this afternoon, won't now you've cleaned it out mate! What was viz like? Looks rubbish from the shore everywhere I've looked.

ye right Tom, i was following the bubble blowers anyway. Vis is good on the bottom.

Thanks Jonny, I'd binned the scallop idea and was going to try get some mackerel till you said that, I wouldn't say viz was good, especially once the tide turned, but was certainly good enough to get these.

Was diving ok considering I've barely been wet this year!

just a quickly can you spear fish on hern?is the white house hotel the only place to stay on the island's and is it all owned by the same person any one going to the Michael buble Robbie Williams cover bash week end in October?

Herm is fine to spear, it's only Sark that is verbotten. Just be aware that there's some serious tide in various places round the island, great diving too though for bass and flatties.

Herm is leased by one family from the Guernsey government. You can stay at the White House, or rent holiday cottages or camp but they're all run by the same people. Welcome to Herm Island

Im trying to sort weights out but i dont know how many is right for me...what am i looking for? Got on at saints harbour...great vis but im so bouyant i just float up and there for see nothing...foxy i will pop round for the gun after work tomorrow if thats cool? (5pm)
