I took the kayak off to the prosperity engine block and was playing in the bays around there:

Nice bass this evening on the west coast, with my new speargun! Only fish i saw.

Ha thanks. about 5/6 pounds, I got that on the far left of chouet near the boat moorings. Got this this evening, almost same place as the bass!

That's a cracking fish there jonny I've not even seen one. that one looks big !.But not as big as that engine block .I just looked it up to see what you were going on about and where it was. it must be a monster land mark, if its still vizable with your tides.what a Bute the last one I saw was on the end of a shot line .is there much left of the ship?

Not much left of the Prosperity, a few lumps of metal strewn about the reef, the engine block is the only identifiable bit. You can walk out to it, but only on a decent spring tide.

After reading through from pages 1 to present i have realised 2 things. 1: I can not put into words how proud i am to own the suit i now do and 2: i think a DB social a must.

Yep and then it went mad for a bit it was a long shot too. i was watching a shoal of bass and had started to line up the the big one, when this shoal of gilties swam up for a look see. Needless to say, my aim changed quickly.
The prosperity engine is on the back of La Conchee reef.

Nice one Jonny. Two things to remember if anyone is thinking of heading out there.

1) There is a lot of boat traffic in the area, often not looking where it is going. A small dive bouy is not really adequate, a kayak WITH DIVING A FLAG aloft is pretty vital.

2) Twice I have come across substantial nets down there. You do not want to get caught in one when free diving.

Oh and 3) know your tides and which way they're going to be running at all states of the tide.

Good points Tom; in spite of my flag which is pretty prominent, i have had close in traffic. The yellow ferry boat came too close for my comfort last weekend. and a couple of the dive ribs were steaming around. oh and the jet-skiis.

Yeh and a kayak without a dive flag is probably worse than nothing at all because they come over to investigate the unmanned craft, probably running you over in the process.

Let the harbourmaster know too. A well meaning landlubber could phone in if they see a kayak apparently drifting.

Still fab vidio. next time I go scalloping im just going to film it and try to get some close ups of there with all the little eyes looking at you and to see how well camaflaged they can be.cant wait to go!well done on putting the vid together for us all.

Would any share some marks to target pollock where I am likely to get one ? Any advice and help would be greatly apprisiated ?

I noticed your freediving fins, do they make a big difference and worth buying?

Phin, yes fins make a difference if you want to dive deep or need to 'surface swim' a long way however they are pretty useless in shallow water bass hunting situations like hunting in the weed!
Bear in mind that jonny has been training to dive deep for several years, he is a very fit chap too!

Went in for a cheeky hour tonight a grande harve report n pics to follow. Possibly a little vid. Before i start on suit and dive essentials i need to ask....how do i stop my mask syeaming up...every 5 mins i couldnt see a thing...

Wash the inside with toothpaste first, then always spit in the mask & quickly rinse before putting it on.
Wash you face with sea water before you put it on too..
