I've had a 45 minute 'slightly worried' (cough!:naughty) full on 'engage front-crawl' swim before off N Wales. 
Diving at 6am in no viz? Too keen for your own good by the sounds of it!
Glad you're ok and no gear is worth ending up like that french sailor. If you do find yourself in unexpected tide its always best to swim perpendicular to it to get out of the flow before either getting out or swimming back. Trying to swim directly against it gets you nowhere.

Hey Matt glad to hear your ok,
we all have moments like this, I once had to swim back from one of the outer reefs after snapping my board on a seriously solid day. going against the wind and an outgoing big spring tide, scared the sht out of me but got in eventually. Main thing to remember weightbelts can allways be ditched, fins are your friends (anything that helps you swim (board , fins, float) should never be ditched, and dont panic,
dive with a float that way u always have bouyancy or something to grab onto.
Hope this helps, and that you get back in as soon as possible.

Thanks Fro, I went without the float as wanted to go in simples, won't be doing that again, the Banks board would have made things much easier and would have saved me some gear

Ahem yes thoroughly guilty of putting the wishbone around the wrong way when I changed my bands last week, so tested with the new twist band technique rather than go home, would have saved myself a load of pain if I'd gone home but then would have missed the big learning lesson, Muppets are us!

Had a good mooch about the string weed this evening, viz was good and the water was feeling warmer. Got a clonker. Of a mullet which I literally shot a point blank(spear was touching head prior to shooting) not sure how but for what ever reason I managed to swim over it until it was below me and busy feeding, then gave it a cheeky tap. Fine ished of the day but putting in 2 new pots and catching a lobby in another.

Cheers to Jonny again, nearly all gear back and GoPro still works fine after lobbing around for 30 odd hours, good solid camera houses.

I am happy with my winter suit but need something from May onwards, I tend to wreck things so need a fairly robust suit, maximum of 3 hours in the water in the middle of summer, 11/2 hours during the shoulder months.
What is the best colour to go for? Is the cammo just for show or does it make a real difference?
