Went in for the first time this year at a favourite NW spot. Conditions ideal, viz quite good, though it deteriorated. Very cold though, especially as I couldn't find my gloves- I'd forgotten how much difference they make! So could only manage just over an hour. Even though it looked " more bassey than Shirley" I only saw a few small ones, who flicked their tails at me and scarpered before I could get near them. I'm sure they also went " meep meep!" and made a Roadrunner
" perchow" sound as they went.
A nice first swim though, and chance to check equipment. New gloves needed!

Mate that really made me giggle - is it really possible to strengthen mullet guts LOL..
Fro in shorts, I dont consider any fish sustainable enough to use as pot bait, just do as jonny does & use the fish frames. Incidentally mackerel have only been used for pot bait in recent years as they had traditionally attracted to many conger but as we dont have many conger anymore so this is not an issue but certainly not a necessary bait either.

First dive of the year for me too. For some unknown reason I decided on the east coast as viz looked as good as it ever does there.

But as usual that side it was pretty rubbish. 3-4m at best, often less. But diveable and after two hours the fingers and toes were numb and all I'd seen was the expected large shoals of mullet.

Hey guys must say I have to agree good fish should not go in pots with fillers attached, just did goujons of mullet and bass in fresh bread rolls with a squeeze of lemon, lettuce and a big blob of dijonaise Mayo and the mullet massively out performed the bass. Mmm tasty.

As for the fishing, great day, great viz down the west coast, lots of bass and mullet seen, got a cracking bass, though didn't realize how big it was when I shot it, prefer table fish really, and got a good mullet on the way in. Gorgeous day, ended with me sat on the beach in the sea with my top half off cleaning my catch, makes me really appreciate Guernsey when it's like this.

Nice to hear that others are getting in too.
i had a shallow 2 hours swimming around leree over the low. should have waited a couple of hours as it seemed to get more fishy laters. had a day of deciding not to shoot small fish and mullets and saw one serious big ma bass that saw me first

Had a lovely day on and under the water, no spearfishing, just blowing bubbles. Stopped on Sark for an extended lunch break.

I will have to get a new wetsuit before the big meet as it is to cold in my 2/3, even in August.

Not a gimmick but nothing special, even their reduced price is over the top.

I could send you links to any number of torches with the same output for under £10, including ones with the flood to throw adjustment that has. Build quality may be a bit better in that one, but probably not.

A Q5 bin led would put around a max of 200ish lumens, which these days is a starting point for something reasonable.

I got up at first light & went out in my boat for a few mackerel for this evenings party supper, but I feel lucky to be still alive...pretty rough out there LOL.
I only got a few hundred yards out of the harbour & had to turn back empty handed!

Thanks Martyn, I was thinking about going in today, but that saves me the trouble! Into town for Liberation Day celebrations it is then! In the meantime, while conditions are rough and the sea still chilly, I've been wondering about the possibilities of using an underwater remote camera in some way to check out vis ( or even fish shoals!) found this Neptune SB-1 radio-controlled submarine provides real-time underwater video
But rather pricey! Any badgers out there got any ideas? Jonny 250?

Ah yes, of course! Might need boat building skills too though! Just noticed my spell check changed bodgers to badgers! might be sheltered spots, but the swell per Magic Seaweed looks better for surfing ( Fro in Shorts put your gun away and get your board out!)
