I cane across two spearos in Grand Harve yesterday afternoon, on my way to Rousse Pier. All in black, in the middle of the fairway between the moorings, looked like a couple of black pot bobbers.
If you are going spearfishing without a bright float, that is not a sensible place to be.

I was watching the Vazon sprint yesterday & there were two divers swimming across the bay very slowly & diving quite a bit, I assume looking for flatfish, but they did not have any makers floats at all!
Colin, I guess you could expect your gun to last longer but I have two of those original Omar mambas sitting in my shed that don't work either!
Go on treat yourself to a nice new one....as it happens I don't think Apnea in Jersey stock air guns anymore? So you might have to buy a band gun or order an air gun from scubaland or somewhere else

Quite agree Spirit! Re pneumatic guns, I've looked around and Apnea only seem to have the Omer Tempest 50 cm. having had my Mamba 100 for some time, I'm not sure I need a gun even that long for the sort of shallow weed bed hunting I do- perhaps a 75 would do? Spearfishingstore.co.uk have the Seac Sub Asso for around £80 inc shipping. I think this is a tried and tested gun- anyone know or have bought from this company? It seems impossible to find any info on buying Maorisub Mamba, let alone any kind of support. I did find a useful thread on DB on making a tool to take it apart, so I may in the meantime be spending some time in the shed! Now if only I could find those stainless ball bearings ...

Col I think your gun is a 90? but if you just buy a standard air gun you will very disappointed compared to your dry barrel mamba!
You could by an 80 airgun & buy a separate kit to turn into a similar gun to the mamba or you could buy the same Omer 90 that you have & fit your mamba kit to it or you could try & fix the recurring problem with your present gun.
Or you could buy a decent 75 band gun!

Thanks Mart, I think you may be right, I think you ordered them for Magpie, you and me. So none of the others have the Mamba's dry barrel design, what about the new Sporasub? From what I can find on DB re disassembly I'll need to make a tool out of metal tubing to undo the end piece?
Anyway for today I'll find somewhere with thick weed where I can use my old 60

Yes Col The one air come fitted with a dry barrel & is meant to be a fantastic gun although one member had a bad experience with the first model released!

i managed a little bass this afternoon, saw lots of mullet, including a couple of clonkers which i filmed but avoided pulling the trigger on for some reason. also avoided shooting a couple of mackerel - sooo tempting, but couldnt really justify it somehow.
had a boat come really really close whilst i was on the bottom - very scary. i think he saw my float and slowed down.
i will upload the footage of the shoal of mullet & bass that we saw

bbq tonight then ? What do you think of this gun, I have just finished the fourth coat of epoxy varnish but still a little work to do like sea trials, balancing, polishing, band choice etc but almost there.
Not the prettiest gun but it has some quality hardware & complex laminating.

Yep BBQ'd and then made up a thai sauce to poor over it, not bad at all really. Saw lots of spider crabs and took a couple of fair sized ones, just picked them so that's the sarnies sorted for tomorrow
