Hiya

Totally agree with you, but WHAT i am saying is : learn the proper basics, then you'll be able to SHOOT ANY gun!!! What i was trying to illustrate is that with PROPER tecnique, ANY woman can load almost ANY gun!!! (and of course to BRAG of my wife's prowess with a speargun!!:D:D:D)

miles

guys lets stay in track and help sam.

Considering your situation and position (i mean location on the earth :) )

Remmember to have 3 things to have in your gun.

1-75cm allu. tube. 2-115cm 6mm shaft 3-16mm rubbers (neither short not long just get the correct length)

you will be fine i guess, at least gun wise. Of course if you don't shoot yourself or somebody around :blackeye

"Get in the water with a bunch of borrowed spear guns and try them out on some fish."
That's some of the best advice I've seen in a long time. Let me add my 2 cents. A 90 can be shot with the arm extended (point over 1.5M from the mask) or with the trigger on your hip (point just in front of your mask), in dirty water or holes. Very versatile. If your gun allows the use of multi bands, you can use smaller rubber. A pair of 10mm are far easier to load and have the same power as a single 14.

P.S. Tuna look great Miles, but we all know what your 'best catch' was.

anyone got a recommendation on the best gun for a total beginner girl!!

guess what I'm gonna try my hand at spearing...

sam

Sam,

The kick a$$ spearfisher in the Miami Herald article, Sheri Daye, is a good friend. From your website it looks like you might become a diversified spearfisher yourself.
If you'd like to ask her about guns go to www.spearboard.com , join, and give "Sheri" a PM.

Good Diving!

Chad

Girlie catch :D
Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday's efforts!
Come on girls have a go!

Sorry Chad I forget that they dont have Bass like ours in the States.
So all Bass except middle pic left fish and right pic bottom fish are grey Mullet and with Wild Bass retailing at about £10 ($20) /pound there's a small fourtunes worth there rofl

You're not wrong Chad!
Unfortunately the high value of them has led to severe over fishing in the UK at least, trawlers net them in great quantities, its certainly led to a decline in their numbers, they're actually difficult fish to find now but thankfully for us they are inquisitive and will come and investigate you during aspetto :)

Alison,

isn't it hard to perform aspetto with mid-handle gun in shallow water?
In shallow water aspettos i always use my other hand to grab something to hold my body steady and in place :hmm

No theres no difference, well apart from the butt of the gun is nearer your eye wich takes some getting used to but the advantages far out weigh the disadvantages I think, just so easy to track

in my opinion a lady should start with an airgun: maybe a woman's body could have some trouble in loading a rubber gun because of her breasts and "softer" abd muscles. try an airgun, size between 70 and 90, of a recent design such as Omer Tempest, Cressi Sl, Mares Cyrano, Asso Tigullio or Sporasub Stealth: you won't have to load them on your breast but on your foot.

Bet my wife's abs are a good bit harder than yours mate. ;^)

Hey Sam ,
I had a look at your website nice pics from Red Sea.
I would sugest you buy a gun around 90cm or 1m it should be short enough for most conditions and still allow a reasonable chance in clearer water you can use longer or smaller diameter rubbers than standard to start with if you need it untill you learn the technique.
If the water is so dirty where your diving you cant see the end of a 1m gun the best option is too emigrate

Peter

hmn.. well it isnt exactly a gun for girls, but its one that girls can handle easily :)

my new gun, a little beuchat arka that i bought to use as a cave gun, basically its very underpowered as standard, and loading it was a real pain, but i figured i wouldnt be using it that much anyways, so i kept it standard.. all for about 2 days (pretty much a record for me, i dont like keeping things standard)

the 2nd day of it being stock, i realised that i was just torturing myself, so i changed the rubbers from what i think were rubber bands spraypainted black, to the 16 mm ones that came from my mundial (i replaced them with 20mm "megatonne" ones) i just cut them a bit shorter, and tied in a wishbone instead of putting back on the caps (something about misplacing one of the caps in my somewhat disorganised room.. it'll turn up if i ever clean my room, honest !!)

then i carried it for water trials.. but it just happened that it was my little sisters first time coming spearing with us, so i let her use it, after making sure that the wishbone was in securely and all that stuff, and the complaints started :hmm basically it went this way - seeethhh i cant load the speargun, u do it for me, she couldnt pull it back properly hip loading, and it hurt her chest too much, so i made the bulky looking but very useful chest pad out of teak, she hasnt used it since then, but somehow i think that there is another female spearo out there now, who stole her brothers cave gun rofl
