Holiday Guernsey 2007

Hey there Mart, did James catch any big bass?? I'm sat at the end of my garden but no fire, no fish and no rocquette!!!!!

Well, I went in a bit later around the corner from them, should have been a guaranteed spot today. Fantastic scenery - I wish the vis could have been like that for you. Saw plenty of mullet and a few bass, but all too far away or going too fast.

Went for a play in the tide when it broke through - I see what you mean Mart! On the way back shot at a bream on the bottom - it seemed to bounce off . On the way in shot a Golden Grey in about 3ft of water - but only just caught it and it wriggled off!:vangry

No doubt the 2007 Holiday Guernsey champion will have caught lots - would be interested to hear.

Someone had a big mullet & James was excited about some big bass he saw
but Marco was taking him to the airport & you know about his punctuality so I did not get a chance to speak to him.
One thing is for sure the sun has been out today & is still is, in fact its glorious. I have just come back from the breakwater with Sarah, loads of people & boat activity, saw 6 bream being landed by the rod dudes. The forecast is the same for the next few days, the water looks very clear.

Two fairly inexperienced spearo's I know who are not members of DB (cries of SHAME!) went in down west today. They said vis was good and both got a decent bass.

James T is probably still stuck in customs trying to convince them that his bag full frozen fish fillets are not contraband .

Funnily enough, we were talking to someone just the other evening who had had a similar problem - but with live cargo!

ok guys just got home and all is well.
What can i say apart from what fantastic hosts you all were and what an absolute pleasure it was to come to your beautiful home.
There's not much that i can add to what Spaniard has already said so i'm not going to try.
Other than to send my heart felt thanks for a truly memorable stay with some of the earths finest people.

First job tomorrow morning is straight on the phone to the de-tox clinic and try to sieve out some of the alcohol and cholesterol that was such a pleasure putting there in the first place.
My many, many thanks to you all and you'll need some sort of miracle to stop me coming back.

hey guys

just got home. what can i say that has'nt already been said great place, great diving, great food, great drink and most of all great bunch of people never been so welcomed, me and louise enjoyed every minute of it and cant wait to come back next year!:friday

Hi Foxfish,
the only italian called Marco and ex champion that I can remember is the famous Bardi was he?Is he working with the OMER? Anyway there are too many italian called Marco do you remember is surname? As an italian I'm too curious:head .

Hey Scottie,
congrats for your trophy and your nice catch hope to see you soon for a day out,let me know mate.

Thank you all for your kind words - but it was a pleasure to meet you all and I think I speak for us all to say we were delighted to welcome you.

Attached are a few more pics, from Sunday night around the fire. The one of James T, if you look closely, shows him demonstrating how to be targeted by a laser sightrofl Looking back we haven't yet got many pics of what was caught - in fact the pics posted so far only show one bass, one mullet and a lobster! Night dive?

Its a terrible thing to come back to work after the fantastic few days that we have had!

It was an amazing holiday to a stunning place but all of it pales into insignificance campared to the hospitality that was shown by everyone over there! Soooooooo many thanks to everyone for putting themselves out and making the holiday guersey 2007 such a massive success!

The food (sooooo tasty as my bathroom scales testify), the drink (i dont drink cider usually!) and the diving was fantastic and the company was even better! Never done so much yet felt so relaxed!

Have just started a countdown clock till next year hopefully! Not long now!
Thanks to everyone, please take a bow, you're all stars!:friday

Hey folks - looks like (as usual) the Guernsey trip was a BLAST! It's always great to see members get together for a fun social and you guys definitely know how to do it.

Next year someone drop me a line as i'll make sure you get some DB stuff sent through as a little gift for everyone.

Very kind of you mate! Yes, the trip was a blast and it was good to see such a good turnout of DB members, 12 or more, most of whom had never met each other before; suffice to say we all got on like a house on fire.

While we were all in Guernsey we felt that it would have been nice had Spagetti been able to make it over, despite his absence we felt he was probably there in spirit and watching over us.....

:inlove how sweet...
and so true I was there in spirit my friends, especially if Podge brought up my ex-speargun (could have been yours, Stuckins... :t ). I'm happy you all had a great time and it's needless to say how much I regret not being there.
Now the question is about the pics you guys are posting: I see lots of people drinking and eating, but did any of you actually go diving? rofl

Hi Spaghetti - see http://forums.deeperblue.net/trip-reports/69083-guernsey-2007-a-73.html#post657410

Hope this isn't too cruel lads - but I thought you'd like to see what conditions were like today, just along from where you were staying! (taken on my way into work:vangry Others managed to break the jinx of the English visitors:t and get some decent fish!

Never mind, conditions are about to get even better, in time for my 10 days off over here starting Friday!

Easy Sarnian, that's my secret GG spot... (but don't tell anyone...)

Thanks for all the thanks guys but I think we all had an equally good time.
Well I guess if we are being offered free gifts from Papa Smurf it would be rude not to do it again next year.
However I wonder about the format if a lot of people wanted to come along?
I mean if we had 20 visitors there is no way we could have the same sort of organization or get together in the evening, not saying it could not be done but what do you guys think? How many would be a comfortable number?
Also what about the time of year, maybe a spring tide would be better?
What about non fishing partners, worked fine this year but what if 20 divers & 20 partners wanted to come?
I am not suggesting that I don't want to help organise next year far from it cant wait, just that I think we need to discuss numbers?
I think this year was a success because we all got on so well, there was a nice balance of male & female, no one was that serious about catching fish, the relatively small number made organising very easy & I had loads of help.
I would like to point out that every one who came this year has priority for next & I really hope we can keep it up for many years to come -
What I am tying to say is - help me with your sujestions

I'm on the tides, you want July/August again? Just got to put the bins out before I forget then I'll post the tide tables for 2008. No time like the present to do my very little bit.
