I'm flexible with any dates in July and agree about staying together for the evenings *ahem* "social" activities; count me in if any group bookings are being considered.
Me I'm flexible by now (9 months to go), but better soon than late we should decide the dates of the meeting.
Sounds like the last week of july would be ok for all, isn't it?
Social activities (drinking, jokes, talking dirty):YES
Staying together (same as above): YES
Basic course on "How to recognize and dispatch flatfish": YES.
(I wish the locals - maybe the Foxen Bros. - to teach me something about that: would be totally new for me, never had much chance to spear flatties in my waters. Please, please do! :inlove ).

Spaghetti I am sure my brother will help you get your wish, the lower the tide the better for flatfish. You can show us you hole hunting techniques (not sure how that reads) maybe find a lobster or two.

Why didn't i do this to start with then?

The only dates I can’t make would be the 14th July to the 21st July.
Any other dates will be fine for me.
As for the best time to come with the best tides for me its not the most important thing with a trip like this, the social side of things plays a big role as does the chance to meet with others that enjoy the same thing as I do.
Although a mullet or two would also be nice.:)

Well lets leave the dates for a couple more days, I know at least 4 other members who haven't responded as yet but have previously told me they want to visit.

Sounds like a great idea to me.Some people may be governed by school hols - most of them start on Fri. 20 July over here, some probably a week or so earlier. However if we made it late July then some people might be able to incorporate it with a family hol, thus earning probably much needed brownie points from the spearo widows.

Straddling the weekend of 28th /29th would also mean that for those not on hols, the low tides at the weekend would fall well. A typical plan might be:

Communal brunch at someone's house ( rockfish/mullet kedgeree of course);
Mass dive late morning, over the low tide;
Met by grateful other halves to collect buckets of fish, take away and prepare:D ;
Meanwhile, repair to local hostelry for refreshment and late pub grub;
Meet back up for barbie, smoked fish, whatever
Supping, exchange of spearo stories and general carousing until early hours:friday ;
Next day:hungover - repeat etc.
I'd be happy to host one evening if around (rash!) although can't at present offer outdoor fire, fish smoker etc. but have been known to do enormous paellas ( if Spaniard's over he could perhaps give me some tips!)

Count me in.

Cheers

Colin

Obviously I am interested. You guys are so organised having next years tide time table at hand! Perfect & just the kind of help I need:).

It'd be a real treat to meet everyone:friday. If we all come at the same time it might we might create our own high season though! (Just how many spare lead belts have you got over there?). Any chance of getting the Guernsey tourist board to make it an official Spearo week?!:D

Hurrà! :friday

PS: indeed lead belts are a fuss to bring on when travelling by planes and ferries...

No spare belts, just spare weights, as many as required. There may be a few spare guns as well, but I dont think traveling by boat will be a problem, air flight might be?
Colin, thanks for your support, especially with any spearo partners, you can entertain them while us unattached (at least for a few days) guys party!rofl

If I can afford it I'll be coming back to Sarnia Cherie for a week this summer to see my family. Was thinking about it the other day - I've been away since 91 now , so I'm probably not entitled to live locally any more, even if I could afford to!!! Someone told me that if you're at university the time doesn't count until you've finished, but that still makes 11 years from 95.

Would love to meet up with folks again, and maybe meet a few more of you too.

Think it'll probably be August, so probably miss the fish in - but then I'm not a spearo anyway. Will hopefully be hunting the fish with a nice shiny new underwater camera by then though.

I'll sort paella out, no probs.

This sounds like a splendid idea. Top job.

You can count me in... and I live here!

So it looks like this
Podge + mate?
Spaniard
Scottie
Stuckin
Huw + petey?
Spagitetti
Glowworm
1 shot
Mr X
That makes eleven :)
I have sent a few PMs but no replies as yet? So lets base the trip on eleven + of course us Guerns.
What I am going to do is phone our tourist board tomorrow & see what they suggest as regards accommodation. If every one is happy with the last weekend of July (27-29) I will base the trip on these days. Do you want to come over on Friday 26th & leave Monday 30th?
Lets try & finalise the dates & duration, any suggestions or alterations to the above will be welcome.

Thanks Andy, while you are there could you tell us the tides early August?

Well then as you can see much bigger tides, 9.5 on the 2nd. Big tides normally spell more flatfish but less bass.
Cheers Andy.

Last weekend in July would be great for me, Have spoken to Jim (stuckinsurry) and yes he’s good with the dates as well.

I've not got anything planned for tomorrow let alone 8 months time! Count me in and i'll put it in the diary.

I'm good with those dates, perhaps we could come over in a big red double decker bus like Cliff Richard and mates in Summer Holiday?
