I've been trying to find a web page that will give me Avalon's water temp but haven't fould one yet. Here's one that will give you conditions, incuding temp for Laguna beach. The temp should be similar within a few degrees to Avalon.

It really depends on which month of summer you'll be there. June water can still be 67 or less, but warms up quick by July. September is the warmest. Average surface temps for summer are 68 to 70 degrees. Can get to 72 or higher.
I also found this table that uses surface buoy temps to accuratley predict the water temp at specific depths. Found at this URL
