It can take a long time to get an up-to-date response or contact with relevant users.
I've been trying to find a web page that will give me Avalon's water temp but haven't fould one yet. Here's one that will give you conditions, incuding temp for Laguna beach. The temp should be similar within a few degrees to Avalon.

It really depends on which month of summer you'll be there. June water can still be 67 or less, but warms up quick by July. September is the warmest. Average surface temps for summer are 68 to 70 degrees. Can get to 72 or higher.

I also found this table that uses surface buoy temps to accuratley predict the water temp at specific depths. Found at this URL

You have to read the article to really understand how to gleen the info from the table, once you do it's great.

If none of this helps, post your question on this BBS:

Even though its billed as the California scuba BBS a good percentage of freedivers hang out there as well.

Never been diving in Avalon, but I heard the wrecks are great. I've been on one of those bottomless boats and can't wait to try that spot out. If you make can make it i'm sure you will be very happy.
