Thread Status: Hello , There was no answer in this thread for more than 60 days.
It can take a long time to get an up-to-date response or contact with relevant users.
The best vis you can get in Dublin is in National Aquatic Center,as climbingperch mentioned, you can get 3-4 meters in one spot ,move around the corner and you get 0.001 meters.

Well lads, haven't been on here in awhile i had a profile before called 'galwaynovice' but i changed email provider and could no longer log on, anyways hope everyone is enjoying this weather.
I was out today in connemara and despite some questionable aiming a nice sized gunner/wrasse swam right by my so i had to oblige, always let these guys swim by because i don't like the taste but unfortunately for the fish i thought i'd take a crack at some different cooking technique.
Vis was alright at times and the temperature was grand, stayed in for over an hour in a cheap worn 5mm portwest suit,
Was just home and by the time i washed my gear and myself my father had the fish gutted and in a pot of boiling water :(.
Anyone know any way of cooking the flesh after it has been boiled to rescue my dinner or even a way to cook them nicely for future reference.

Patrick ,the best way to cook wrass is to fry them on a separate pan to a 16oz striploin steak, you then open the bin and throw the wrass in ,and have the striploin medium rare with a pan of shrooms/onions ,simples ;),theyr the equivalent of slugs with finns, yuk.

No no, you always cook the wrasse between two bricks on the BBQ, then throw away the fish & eat the bricks :)
Of course wrasse are edible, when I was young (about 45 years ago) wrasse were a staple diet amongst fish eaters but, they were never a favourite!
Fish over 5lb are best but in turn, they are very old fish & the breeding stock, so it all becomes a little controversial.
They don't taste bad just need lots of seasoning.
Removing boneless fillets takes an understanding of the fishes anatomy, however a fillet of skinless wrasse cooked in the pan with strong spices is really quite nice!

Well i certainly won't bother with wrasse again, the father was happy to eat it so no waste but i've definitely make up my mind that i won't be spearing anymore. Anyone have a number for Domino's pizza?? :p:p

Baked whole with a lobster stuffing  ....nice vid, a polarising filter on the lens would have been magic.

Hi Patrick, good to see you're putting the gun to use.
I think the best way to eat wrasse is salted. Salt them for a few days and then dry them in the sun.
If you do it right they'll last forever practically, you can then hang them in the attic/dry shed.
Soak overnight before boiling them and serve with boiled potatoes and accompany with milk.
Similar to bacalao, only not as refined.
Sadly no spearing here in the US for me. I'm going to Maine in a week or two nad have a feeling there will be lobsters within freediving range (permits required of course).

Lads anyone know the difference between an aeris f10 v2 and the beuchat mundial 2... Been googling and seem to be the same... I can pick up the beuchat 90 quid cheaper delivered...

On another note weather looks good for weekend so taking our first camping/spearing trip of the summer.... Can't wait...haven't been this yr yet...

I think they are the same but I'm not 100% sure...if you pm Fondueset I'd say he can advise you on it. Have a look at this thread http://forums.deeperblue.com/threads/f-10v3.99943/page-2#post-931628 ...Aeris and Oceanic are merging and there's a new version of the F10 due out soon. I got the F10 V2 a few months ago to use in the pool and its fantastic for that, the pool is only 1.2 metres deep so I needed a shallow activation for the watch and the F10 works perfect. There's also a new Cressi freediving watch called Drake due out this year as well.
Good luck with the trip :)

Cheers Derek... Wonder how much extra the v3 will be... Gonna get me new mask and graduated lenses (finally be able to see properly) so don't wanna break the bank on a computer this year... Might go with the beuchat... If I get 2-3 yrs how bad

There used to be a very good comparison site but its been down for a while...most dive watches even without freedive mode will give you the basics but the shallow activation was what I was looking for to use in the pool.

Yea the beuchat activates at 0.6 mtrs... same as aeris afaik...seems to have all the same functions... has surface interval time too...

Got out Saturday for a few hrs off blackhead co Clare... Saw plenty of small pollack and took and mid size for supper... Viz was about 3-4 mtrs... Was hoping for a few spider crabs but there's wasn't too many about... All we found were females so left them be... Great being out again esp in this weather

Got out yesterday for nearly 2 hours, vis wasn't great only 2-3 metres at best in a few small areas but overall it was a white out...the bright sun was like turning your full beams on in a snowstorm. Water temp was a balmy 19°c and I was sweltered in my 7mm long johns and jacket.

I ordered a new 5mm open cell almost a month ago from Subprof and when it finally arrived after 3 weeks it was only a 3mm instead of the 5mm I had ordered, I had to send the suit back at a cost of €41 from An Post, Subprof then generously told me I could order equipment from them for the value of the return shipping. I sent it last Wednesday and haven't heard anything since, An post also can't track a shipment when it leaves the country and even though I paid extra to have it tracked and signed for, there is no record of the shipment since last Thursday on their tracking website.

Subprof don't have the 5mm in stock so that has to be ordered and resent when it eventually comes in to them, by contrast, I ordered a set of fins from Scubastore on Wednesday afternoon and had them in my hands by lunchtime Friday with tracking all the way.

I've ordered off them four times and everytime they've been out of stock... Had to wait week or two for stocks to come in... I've also ordered stuff from scuba store and got it after two days... If I'm not in a rush I'll take the chance with subprof but they've never sent me a wrong item... Hope it all gets sorted ASAP for you Derek

Thanks Kb...I thought it was in stock when I ordered it on 22nd May, I had added it to my cart on the 16th but did not pay for it then as I wanted to order a few more bits and pieces to make the shipping more worthwhile...after a few days they mailed me asking why I hadn't proceeded with the order but they never said it was not in stock. When I heard nothing I sent a mail on the 26th asking them when I could expect my order and they replied 4 days later on the 30th to say that they were awaiting stocks to complete my order. After several more mails back and forth it arrived with the wrong size suit on the 10th. I really am sickened by this experience with Subprof...I would have ordered from Scubastore but they didn't have it in stock and there was/is an error with the price on their website. I don't see price difference as a problem as they have often price matched for me in the past and they absolutely have the shipping nailed with DHL.

Sounds kinda familiar...second time I ordered I mailed them to see was the product in stock...was told it was then when I didn't see any updates on order I mailed them to ask had it shipped and then got the reply the item was out of stock and they were waiting for it to be delivered from supplier... Myself and my brother usually get a few things together to save on shipping too and the 3rd order we had to wait for a few different items to come into stock...in the end the fins he ordered were out of stock I with cressi... Think we waited almost a month for that order to be delivered... Wasn't in any hurry with it though think it was ordered in January... At least with scuba store they tell you the item is out of stock and may have to wait 3 days etc for it to come in.... I've ordered my new mask with lenses on 11th and it's still showing waiting stock but when ordered said in stock... Not in too much of a rush for them but still painful waiting

If I wasn't in much of a hurry I suppose I wouldn't mind as much, but at this time of year and only having a 7mm I want it yesterday. I don't think I'm asking too much to have the goods I order delivered in a reasonable time frame...if their competitors can do it in half the time for the same price I know who I'll be ordering from next time...even if the item is not in stock and will take a week to come in.
