I will not engage in a tet -a- tet with you or anyone here. I have stayed out of this debate thus far due too the course these discussion's normally take.
If you truly believe your stocks plentiful enough to continue as is then my point is mute. As you will never need to come here to hunt! So save yourself a few quid don't bother with the flight.

Hey guys, could you please switch your focus to answering some of my questions... my gear has arrived and I would like to start exploring asap. In case yous cant be bothered to look at earlier post here is a synopsis:

Relocated to Dublin and need following info + ideally buddy
1. 5mm ok or need 7mm
2. Anywhere in Dublin to get a few bits of gear?
3. Areas around Dublin any good or do I need to go further afield?
4. Vis seems really bad...whats up with that?

Thanks for the help. Anybody who gives some helpful info gets a pint.

Debate? Just guessed it was a bit of fun banter ;)

And yes I think 1 silverfish per 1 hour in the water over a 1 mile stretch is sustainable.

Around 20 fish between 3 spearos over 6 hours in water covering miles and miles of water. Is neither 'ungreen' or debate provoking...
The fact is that assumption making and innuendo..has highlighted to possible anti's and the like an issue that wasn't even there.
If any of you guys are still upset from your assupssion based opininions...then please note that I have kindly removed the awful pic and have also clarified the details.
Please in future do not make judgement without facts as YOU are in danger of bringing spearfishing into disrepute.
Spearfishing is sustainable. If u think a fish is rather small and you lose sleep over it then PM the person, they will then give you the correct facts. Do not go man b**ching about it.
Are there any good golf courses on ireland?

A needle and thread would have done ya for most of that stuff ya shot the other night :p
Prime example of stupidity...these are the thaughtless comments that should be removed.

Well done, yet again for bringing unwanted attention from the anti's.

1. 5mm is fine, except for april and October (2mm under tank top helps early and late season)
2. Not sure ,online is usually cheaper with a better selection.
3.Dublin is not ideal ,but there are a few Spearos up their that know better the me.
4.Get used to crappy vis ,this is Ireland ,3 meters is usually classed as o.k vis here.

The Vis is much better on the west coast ,due to larger sand particles versus the east coast.

Hope this helps.

1 most people use 5mm I have both as I dont like cold water
2 Flag Ship Scuba in Dalkey has some spearo gear, Feargus sells Immersion gear. (if you do go to Dalkey and are tempted to get in please be carefull the rip tide is something to behold)
3 Dublin can be very hit and miss vis is very difficult to get and if its easily accessed its probably fished out.
Try opposite sides of the bay not the centre . I have taken Bass to 10lbs from Dublin Bay much to peoples surprise but it was not easy.
North of Dublin is not really used but I think it has potential, after that basically head down the N11 great spots all the way to Hook Head. West Cork and Kerry have the best fishing in the country IMO, west coast is great for pollack and shellfish.
4 Reading your earlier post I see you have dived in Croatia having also dived there I can tell you that there is little chance of ever seeing vis like that here. But there are certainly alot more fish in fact I thought Croatia was barren compared to Ireland. If you want good vis youll have to learn to read the weather.

Having not posted for a while I was reading my old posts, was I really the only one to post pics of Triggerfish considering the amazing summer we had last year? Heading down to West Cork for a couple of nights 18/19 June i'll be based in Clonakillity if any Langers(cork people Lee) wanna join me for a dive. I found an amazing spot down there last year that I'm itching to dive again. While Conservation is at the forefront what are peoples views on shooting large Stringray ? Cant get the image of the huge one that rose out of the sand in front of me in Kerry last year out of my head. It was well over 1m across and very thick I'm still torn as to whether I should have pulled the trigger or not and if I did I'd imagine things could get quite hairy in the water.

Hi boys , hope you are all well. looks like you getting in to season now. any sea bass yet ? in Norway we are in full swing with diving . not as good as autumn , but still getting plenty of fish . miss you all !!!

Hi Danas, season is off to a slow start this year...bad wind and vis are still keeping us out of the water. The closed season is in place on bass until the 15th of next month so we can only look and not touch until then.
As for the other bs that's been posted....suffice to say that the three flounder I took were all average size for this area, each just over 1lb weight and by no means undersized, yes there are bigger fish in the sea but they were all very edible and suitable for a meal. I could have taken many more that day but I only took what I intended to eat and did have a nice breakfast for two days running.
I have on many occasions opted not to pull the trigger on bass, mullet, wrasse and flounder for various reasons including too small, too big (breeding stock) or it may be that I don't eat them.
I've no interest in being a prolific spearo, I fish for the pure enjoyment of being able to put healthy food on my table in an ecologically sustainable way, if someone has a valid rational argument over the manner in which I do that, then I am genuinely interested in hearing it and will take any good advise or criticism on board. In my ignorance, I shot a wrasse once and found it not very pleasant to eat and will not do so again, I'm not any "holier than thou" but I would like to think that I learn from my mistakes and that I will not have any negative impact on the areas that I hunt. I have no problem with welcoming anyone to our shores to fish but I would expect them to obey the local bye laws and respect the environment for their and their childrens future enjoyment.

Thanks for the comprehensive response. Allow me a few more add on questions.

1. You mentioned rip tides. I undersyand what they are in theory but have never had to 'deal' with them. How do I go about keeping safe In regards to the rip tides?
2. I will start in Dublin bay and go from there. Other than rip tides anything else to take care of?
3. It is true that Croatia can be rather barren but if you know the spots and have a bit of luck it is amazing. I am very familiar with the fish in the Mediterranean but not at all with the ones here. Any size restrictions or anything like that I should be aware of? Also, what is the most suitable style to catch fish here... crawl around in the shallow or dive down and wait?
4. In regards to vis, how do you read weather here... it changes all the time! You seem to be very well informed so if you would be willing to go for a dive one of these days that would be really cool.

Thanks
